I just traded off my only real collectible knife--the 2nd Gen HR (black). I have always wanted to get my hands on the Tan version as my ultimate user knife. Does anyone have any idea how I could get my hands on one of these??? Thanks so much

I got one while back on the exchange, 200 something US$ for a used one. I agree, probably the best knife they made. I think the run was quite limited for some SAR conference in 05, I might be wrong though.

Keep on looking, they pop up from time to time. And before you ask, mine is not for sale.

Well, since we all like pics, and big 'uns at that...

And like bodhi, mine is not for sale either. Sorry.

Man, those are just too nice..Does the Scrap Yard Yardkeeper compare to the HR? I see them around, but just don't like them as much.

I had the tan YK and have a 2nd generation HR. I did a side by side comparison and like the HR better. Not by a lot though. I noted vibration while batoning and chopping with YK. I like my choil too! I didn't measure it, but think the YK was thicker. Cool, good looking knife though! But, the Howler is a classic!

So should I post in the "Wanted to Buy" section? I don't see a "Knives Wanted" section. I'll look further--I'm new to the forum, though I just got some feedback. I'm guessing my quest for the Tan HR probably won't bear any fruit. Man, no other knife has had the appeal. Tried to get one years ago...Ugh

Fixed that for you!!!

DOH!!! j/k Sorry, I could not resist a little levity. :):p:thumbup:

User or safe queen, each to his own. It's all good.

OK,OK, the Gen 1 Howler gets the work done and the Tan Howler just watches but someday, maybe someday!!

It looks like you have your WTB post up ok.

Just be prepared to bump your thread (no more than once every three days) until you get one. IIRC, it took me a few months before I found mine. You might get lucky and find something sooner, but be ready for the long haul. Patience and tenacity will go a long way, and will be worth it in the end. Good luck!

On the edge, thanks for the advice. Do the folks over at SR ever do anything custom for a large fee? I gotta wonder..

I am not sure that their willingness is at issue. As I understand it, they no longer have the raw materials or equipment to do Res-C handles.
