I saw this question asked on the For Sale Forum and thought it would be interesting to hear everyones feedback.

What effect do you think it makes to have Tan handles vs. Black handles on your CG knife.

I know that the Tan handles are much more rare and usually a special order, so do you think that over time they will be more valuable?

I know that I like the looks of the Tan on a Black blade much better and I'd be willing to pay a premium for a knife if it had the tan handles.(that is if I had the money ;))

:D:D

I like that tan, and spent more time finding the tan blades on the secondary market, including one from you E....

I like the contrast.....

Though with Satin blades, like my LE Mojo, I like the black handles....

I had no idea they were special order... I have tan handles on all of my ergo Busses... BM-e, SH-e, and NO-e. I was hoping to get a second steel heart with the black handle and just can't decide which of my Busse Basics to sell off!

...I will add that the handle on my NO is noticably thicker than the SH or BM, any thoughts on that?

In tan handles I mean these tan(2nd Down) that turn a Reddish tan when oiled

Here is a better example.

Top Tan(reddish)

Middle Greyish/Tan(when Oiled Black) I call this black or Grey/Black

Bottom same as middle but it has been oiled or used and the oil in your hand has caused it to change to its black color

The bottom one will change back to the middle with a little Hot Water, mild soap and a scrub pad.

Eric, what oil are you using to do that? I have the grey/tan handles not the red/tan version... is that the normal and so called black handle version then or are their also a blacker version as well?

It sounds like the ones you have (Grey/black) are the normal ones, usually referred to as Black. Any oil will work, and you don't need much(ie vegetable oil, Palm oil, some use WD-40)

Eric, great links thanks! I do like the darker handles and plan on making most of my Busses into real users... so does adding oil to the handle make the tactility of the grip change? Though I prefer to have a black handle, I would hold off on oil if it meant it could slip out of my hand when wet from sweat... if it is still a good grip I will be going home to give my Blades a good rub down

The Tan handles SHOULD add about $300.00 to the value of the knifes;)
The Camo handles that were out before the new Snake skin handles did cost extra and still commands a premium.
(except on Chips Quad, and he should sell that to me...cheap):D

I think the tan on black will will be more collectible. And
I don't have any!!:(

Chip,
I'll help you out. I'll give ya my 3/16 black on tan battle mistress for that beat up ole quad grind :D

I know people say that tan handles are rare, but gosh darn it I've sure seen a lot of them over the last year or so. Maybe I'm not thinging with the same ratios to define rare, lol :)

Personally I hate tan (for everything, not just knives), it's a color that should have been left to die and rot with the 70's :D

Like avacado and burnt orange.

Hey wait, I like the tan slabs. Especially on my LMS'....;) :p

Shades of Mom's color scheme.

Therapy has been a great help though...

1974? Junior year. That's all I remember....;) ;) ;)
