I notice some of the kukri have full tang in the description. If it's not full tang, what is the tang design usually? Or is there a common tang?

On a full tang design, can you always see the tang down the back of the handle? Or, if it's full tang, can you alwYs just glance at it and know it?

Is the full tang more generally more desirable ?

Many thanks for your feedback.

Visit the Himalayan Imports sub forum, then jump to their homepage. You may have already been there and not fully explored it. It can be confusing to find what you what to know. The homepage has a wealth of information. I have a couple of HI kukris, neither are full tang but both are tough enough for about any task that I'm tough enough to put them to. I think there's a link in the HI page that identifies the appropriate use of the various models.

IMHO, tang construction/type is somewhat overrated as a guide to knife strength.

Your choice probably depends on what you intend to use the knife for.

Full tang- Chiruwa= Full length and width tang, noted by slab sided handles and pinning.
Full tang- Invisible tang, Rat Tail, Kangaroo tail..etc= Full length tang peened at the buttcap, noted by the full handle and no pinning.
Partial tang-stub tang= short tang of only a few inches, held in by laha, sometimes pinned. most real villager khukuri are made this way.

Some will argue that full tang chiruwa is the strongest and only way to go for the toughest knife. HI has proven this to untrue, as in 27 years of selling khukuri there have been very few failures of the invisible tang models. HI makes the strongest in the business.

Some prefer chiruwa handles because the full tang tends to balance the knife more neutrally, but some claim more shock during chopping is transmitted to the hand.
Some prefer invisible tang handles because they balance the blade a bit more forward heavy and less shock is transmitted to the hand.

I ordered the WWII 18' and British Army 15', do you know their Tang style?

yes, I have been all over HI page But couldn't fine it. #2 and 3 sellers , gotta be somewhere.
