Tang rust

I smeared the ren wax on to my new Sheffield Barlow but when I next visited it there was rust on the tang and maybe even on the pivot pin, under the bolster where I can't reach with my Flitz polish.
I oiled it and worked the blade in a panic but now wonder if that was the best course of action.
Oil prevents rust but doesn't remove it. Will I have to remove the oil first?
What should I do to to remove and stop the rust in those impossible to reach places without disassembling the knife.
This Barlow was made by Mr. Ablett (RIP).
Thanks.

A multitool (Dremel) outfitted with a tiny polishing brush gets me into those hard-to-reach areas better than anything else I own. I do that after the oil has worked its way in for a day. Then I'd do what the others say: Keep it lightly oiled and use it.
