Hello, I am a new member here and enjoy the forum! And for those in the know, I have a question. I recently read on TOOOJ'S thread that these two (1245,1271)were made with wider tangs than a traditional USMC (1211 for example) KaBar. I have none to compare it to. Have any tried these out for durability compared to the original? Thanks.

Hey Gary, and welcome to the Kabar forum and Bladeforums, glad you're here.

I don' t any experience with the 1245, other than just handling it at shows. I would venture a guess and say that the added steel on the handle tang, would make it more durable.

I'm sure some folks will be along to help us out.

Once again welcome.

I myself have never had any problems with the USMC tang but that's just me. I own a 1245 and it has more power, you can feel it. I want to buy a 1271 but the serrations are a turn off for me. If it was a plain edge I would own about 5 by now.

That's a good way to describe it. More felt power. I like it.
