tank to burner hook up?

Hi folks,

I am finally getting around (after a year!) to hooking up my burner for my forge and have a question regarding the order (and what I might be missing/needing) of the components from the tank to the burner (not forced air).

I bought the burner from Mr. Zoeller and the rest of the components from Darren Ellis. I've tried going to Darren's website (both Explorer and Mozilla) and it never pops up. I was hoping to look at the forge gallery to see how folks have hooked their's up.

Anyhow, I've got the following pieces/parts:

- the connector for the tank to the regulator
- a 5-30psi propane regulator
- pressure gauge
- 6' of hose with connectors
- a gate/ball valve
- modified side arm burner

Is it okay to hook it up as follows or do I need a needle valve as well?

tank --> regulator --> hose --> gate valve --> burner

pressure
gauge

I'm a real dummy when it comes to this stuff. What function does the needle valve
serve and where would it go in the sequence?

Many thanks,
Dana

Check and see if the pressure guage should mount on the regulator. I got mine from Darren and the guage does mount on the regulator. The rest of the assembly order is correct.

Hmmm....I "mounted" my pressure gauge to the side of the regulator. Hope I did it correctly?!
On the regulator I have 4 ports: one "in" , one "out", one at the bottom that has some sort of spring in it and, finally, one that run 90 degress to the in-out path. THis is where I tied in the pressure gauge.

Is this right or wrong?

Thanks a lot,
Dana

i am planning to hook my burner up soon and have a similar question:
i got the needle valve and an extra ball vale to hook up an idle circuit, but i am not 100% sure how that plumbing works, anybody got a schematic or something along those lines

by the way, i don't have any problem with darren ellis' site with explorer on at work or home...

Dana, the needle valve goes in the gas line. It can be set up just before the burner. You can do without it but makes it alot easier to adjust the amount of gas.

I think I'll order a needle valve and put just before the burner and move the gate valve back to the outlet side of the regulator and hook up the hose to it.

Hi Cook 7. I guess it must be something here at work. I'll try connecting to Darren's site from home.

Many thanks all,
Dana

Hi Dana,

Hey, I was out of town yesterday, sorry I missed your call. Give me a call today if you get a chance and we'll get everything together for your burner!

:)

for the help.

JM - I am still unable to connect to that link to Darren's website. It sounds more and more like it's something here at work. I'll use my browser at home and take a peek at Robert's setup.

Mattew - thanks for the link. I'll go take a look at it after writing this reply.

Darren - I don't have your phone number on hand. If you give it to me I'll give you a jingle.

Many thanks,
Dana

Here's a schematic that might help.
