I am new to Busse but just bought a SARSquatch and Tankbuster with Urban Shadow Camo and black/tan G10 magnum grips. They should be here next week.

I know the TB is thicker and the blade shapes are different but what else separates these two models?

What are your guys' opinions of these two?

Which do you like better?

What is the blade shape on each called? Sorry for all the newb questions, I'm a first time Busse buyer. Thanks.

No, you should have it by Saturday. =) Because the SARSquatch is thinner, the edge on the much finer so some say it is sharper, so the Tankbuster is thicker and stronger. The SARSquatch is more of an ugly user while the Tankbuster is a much nicer looking knife. I don't use, so I think the Tankbuster is a much nicer knife. LOL

That's what I was thinking. Fingers crossed for Saturday :thumbup: . Don't want to get my hopes up and be disappointed though.

I've had and used both

Sold the SARSquatch---

Tank Buster is a much better feeling Knife(IMHO) and a lot tougher

The only way to know is to TEST both..

Let us know what one you like better

Congrats let us know what you think about them, their both Infi so either way you got some awesome knives coming. :thumbup:

I don't have a Tankbuster, but I had a SarSquatch and still have a SJTAC.

For my uses, the SarSquatch was a VERY nice knife. It is a very good camp style knife that feels and balances well in the hand. It is a decent, but larger than I prefer trail knife. Personally, I would have preferred it without the swedge - and SATIN! Otherwise, the SarSquatch is a VERY nice knife IMO. I sold my SarSquatch, but it was NOT one I wanted to sell. I hope to be able to pick up another in the futuer - hopefully SATIN!

The Tankbuster is thicker and heavier than I prefer for a knife it's size. But, many around here like knives ultra thick and stout. Busse is "Busse Combat". So, for what it is, the Tankbuster would make a nice "Tough" knife that is good at taking a LOT of abuse. Being so thick, the Tankbuster is not as good a knife for cutting type tasks as the SarSquatch, but even thick knives can cut. However, a nice high convexed SarSquatch is going to cut better than a thick obtuse saber grind Tankbuster.

The Tankbuster is about 12.0" oal. For knives around that size, I prefer they be closer to 13-16 ounces or so. The Tankbuster is generally over 18 ounces from what I have read - weight will vary depending on choil option and handle options.
I already had/have a SJTAC with convex grind at 0.1875" thick and I have already customized mine to a nice satin finish and full convex grind. My SJTAC is a nice user. For my uses, I knew I would prefer the SJTAC that is what I consider an appropriate thickness for its size over the thicker Tankbuster and actually like my STJAC a lot. So, I passed on the Tankbuster.

*** Obviously, opinions will vary. You may LOVE the Tankbuster. I know others do. Others love the FAT ASH as well. But, it wasn't for me. I much prefer my pretties to be slender and toned! ;)

The SarSquatch is a larger knife than the Tankbuster in length and still weighs less.

SARSquatch = 17.0 ounces; .1875” thick; 7.0” blade; 12.75” oal

Tankbuster = 18.25 ounces; 0.25” thick; 6.375” blade; 12.0” oal

SJTAC = 13.25 ounces; .187” thick; 6.375” blade; 11.875” oal

.

the comp sarsquatch imo is busses best straight from the factory offering as far as a hiking and camp blade.

I am a user and personally I prefer the Tankbuster for a few reasons. The TB's tip has a more acute, yet robust point which makes drilling tasks easier if your a bushcrafter. The TB also has a nice saber grind which can take as much batoning as you want to throw at it. I find the Tac handles to be quite comfortable after extended use and I like the no choil option the over all "feel" of the TB. The SARsquatch is still a really nice knife, a bit longer and equally tough... after all it is INFI. I also like the Tac handles and the heafty feelMost will depend on personal preferences

No matter which you decide to use, Busse has a solid warranty, but who wants a broken knife in the field?

My $0.02

I have a SarSquatch coming so I cant comment on feel, but i am a user of every knife I own...that said I don't find the Tac handles to be that comfortable for my hands. They are larger, and I don't what it is but me and the Tac are ok for short periods but I prefer other shapes a bit more.

I've heard that from others too, but I do have medium hands. My favorite handle style currently are the BWMs, very comfy... not counting Res-C.

I am not honestly a fan of the TAC handles as they ship from the factory. But, I am one who is "sometimes" fine with making some modifications. I saw potential in the Tac handle. And I LOVE the SJTAC's blade - everything about it once satin and convexed! :thumbup:;)
I removed the ramp from mine. I did NOT like the ramp on the TAC handle. And I slightly reshaped other parts of the handle into a little bit larger version of my RMD handle minus the ramp. :thumbup:

My SJTAC has gone through slow changes over the years to get where it is now.

Not a very good picture, but here is about what my SJTAC looks like today:

Thanks for the replies. This is pretty much a pump up thread until they get here. I also have a Regulator and sheath coming but who knows when.

-Oh yeah, what are tac handles?

DWRW, great job on the convex, and I love the removal of the thumb ramp...its almost lookin like a roach belly. ;)

I had a Sarsquatch and sold it within a week of receiving it - it just didnt do anything special for me especially since I already had a skinny ash, tankbuster and nmsfno.

I still have my Tankbuster and it is a great blade that I will never sell - what I especially like is:

-nice strong tip - ive stabbed through metal sheeting no problem

-stout and thick - it is just a monster bulldog of a knife - I had a .32" ash1 and my TB gives me JUST as much confidence

-excellent blade shape - the sweeping blade is just awesome

-excellent ergos - chocking up is a dream with this knife - I love how there is a nice "dip" by the thumb.

-not too big - it packs a lot of blade and strength in a relatively small blade.

Between my Skinny ASH and Tankbuster, I will not be buying another Busse in this 6"-7" size class.... (yeah right, I know I know ;))

Use your new blades in good health and welcome to the family :thumbup:

Good stuff Trailwolf. I'm definitely most excited about the TB. I told myself I was going to buy just one Busse because they're expensive and been shelling out money left and right for folders. I have a couple Ka-Bars and a Spyderco Warrior but I wanted a bombproof Busse that will last me a lifetime that I would fall in love with.

I didn't know much about Busse's but I know they go fast and when you see something you like you have to jump. I saw the Sarsquatch and liked it (didn't fall in love) and made my move (somewhat of an impulse. Literally as soon as I got home from mailing the money order I saw the Urban Shadow Camo Tankbuster with the mag g10 handles and I did fall in love and pulled the trigger as soon as I got the green light. I can see how these things are addictive and I on't even have one yet. These things are badass and beautiful, mean and sexy.

The thing is with a Sarsquatch, TB, and Regulator they all seem to fill the same niche. Do you all agree?

BTW, the Sarsquatch came with a nice sheath for a good price.

Some may say they fill the same niche because they all are relatively close in blade length, however you have 3 very different thickness. Its this reason that I'd say they all would excell in very different chores. The TB probably being the most versatile in my opinion, but its just that so take it fwiw. :) I have a strong feeling the SarSquatch is gonna be one of my new favorites though. Time will tell.

Both are incredible knives. I love the tank buster with the thick blade. it looks good and feels great in the hand. the sarsquatch, Imo is like a lighter version of the FSH. yes handles are different, but for what its used for. the sarsquatch rocks. Here are some shots of the two.

still haven't decided on the terror monkey yet.. very thin handle size, yet fairly thick blade?? interesting design

I agree 115% Bro

I think he will as well

I like the SARsquatch alot!!! I ended up selling my first one (Comp finish) to a buddy of mine during a deer hunt last year and found another one (CG) immediately after I got home. I stripped it and sent it to norcalblacktail (Nate) for some blade mods and now I think it's perfect!!! I polished the spine/handle/choil area for a little WOW effect. It's the first Busse-kin blade I ever bought 2 of. Nothing wrong at all with the TB, they just didn't appeal visually to ME (it's not the first time my tastes have run a little different from the rest of the crowd);).

I have put my Tank Buster through a lot and it's really one tough knife, batoning, prying and assorted other things including beating on the handle after I pounded it into a stump to see how strong it was.

I don't think one would ever have to worry about breaking one. ;)

Well except maybe Mike. :D
