Kind of an "old school" chopper for me, no fancy curves, no fancy handles, just a very basic, very sharp cutting tool. Forged from 1-1/2" x 1/4" 1095, blade is 10 x 2, overall 15".

So if you have pics of what your brining, feel free to show um here.

thanks John, are you going to be at Batsons? Come on... it aint that far from ya!

Great hamon, Matt  I think the hardened part of the blade is proportionately well balanced to the softer part. And I guess it is just best for a chopper  The maker's mark looks so nice to be there :D

thanks all, kind of went with the Jim Crowell chopper style. Hopefully it wont be raining on us at Tannehill, im just before building an Ark and floating to the desert of West Texas to live!

I like the old school look of this one, Matt. A lot of steel in that 'compact' 10-inch blade. Great hamon, should perform well. Give us a report after some use.

Nice one, Matt! Speaking of Tanehill and Crowell etc., check out this shot from 2005.

It can surely rain down there, but it can be beautiful beyond words too. In 05 we had great weather but it had also recently rained a lot, leaving the river running through Tannehill within 6 inches of the bridge there in the campground area.

And speaking if Jim Batson, this is his daughter presenting him with a birthday present that she herself painted. The image is of Tahchee who is featured in the famous old photograph of the Cherokee Chief with a big guardless coffin handle bowie knife in his sash. Tahchee was a fascinating character whose story can be found here: http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/biographical/tahchee_cherokee_chief.htm

Good luck Matt. Hope ya'll have a great time this year!

Buddy,

You never cease to amaze me. It seems that you are everywhere all at once.

I really look forward to seeing any of your photos. You not only have mastered the camera, but your photos just seem to have that "down-home" look to them.

I sure hope to meet you someday and talk "cameras".

I'll be going to Batson's with a "chopper", but it will be up for grabs to anyone who wants to have a try at cutting. My old eyes and body just ain't what they used to be, so I no longer even try.
