Hi everyone.

I was wondering something ... I'm going to be ordering a number of balisongs soon, and I'd really like to get a nice variety. I was wondering if there was a balisong with a tanto blade that you would recommend. According to KnifeZilla the MGC with the tanto is the only current production one ... but I've read only very bad things about MGC balis... Is there anything else available in that type that I could look for? If nothing else production, at least something recent enough that I could get it at a reasonable price somewhere?

Hehe ... it's funny ... a few weeks ago I found this knife site online offering butterfly knives. I'm thinkin', "Sweet, I've wanted one of those for a while!". So, I was gonna buy a few. At this time, I have purchased no butterfly knives, still, and have sent out about $220 US to pay for other knives. Ooops. Looks like I got sidetracked.

Well, any advice would be appreciated.

A few years ago I asked Benchmade to make me up just such a knife - BaliSong with tanto blade. Did a beautiful job but the handles were stainless, and I felt it was unbalanced, too heavy towards the rear (if that's the phrase to use). I see that they have since changed the handles to titanium which is much lighter.

I have a BM44s and a BM11; both tantos. I love them both. The 44 is a little blade heavy, but I really love the weight. Hopefully benchmade will offer a tanto blade for the 42. I would be worried about the handles being even lighter though. I would still wait and see instead of buying the Bear.

i actually have the bear mgc tanto (non-damascus). I guess I'm in the minority when I say that I like it. I haven't experienced any problems with the handles snapping, and I've had it for about 2 months maybe. It's a pretty heavy knife and fairly solidly built. There was zero handle play when I got it, and there's just a little now. I do subject it to pretty high torque movements (propeller openings, etc.) and drop it occasionally. No problems yet. The only things I don't like about it are the chisel grind and the crappy job they did bead blasting the blade.

In any case, you can get it at smoky mountain knife works for $19.99! I don't know if it's listed on their web site, but the model number is BR114A. Can't go wrong with that!

Bear tantoes Yeauck! (personal opinion). Jamprit is right though, if you can find em go for a BM44. One just went thru my hands 3 weeks ago and man they are really somehting else.

I have a MGC tanto and love it! I previously had a mini, black, MGC (7.5" opened) and after 3 months the handle broke

. It lasted a lot longer than my P.O.S. Jaguar.
