Tanto Blade for EDC?

Hi, I'm an electrician and I carry and use a Kershaw R.A.M. for work and general EDC tasks. I like big folders so on my days off when I'm not working I like to alternate between a Military G-10 and a Police3 as my EDC for general purposes (opening envelopes, calm shell packaging on the little one's toys, cutting fishing line, etc.) no hard use. What I would like to do is add a Hogue Elishewitz Designed EX01 Tactical Folder to this rotation. I never really like the look of the tanto blade, but the Hogue's tanto has peaked my interest. I have read some post on the Americanized tanto blade and the purpose of the design. What I would like to find out is if this blade would be practical for the uses I described? Does anyone EDC a tanto blade knife? I'm also adding an Emerson A-100 to the rotation.

I haven't carried a tanto as edc in a very, very long time. That said, I did receive a BM AFO II tanto automatic yesterday, and carried it today. For the task you described above I would not forsee any problem with it.

You would be well served my a tanto for general work chores. The beefed up tip is great for scraping wires and can serve in much the same way as carrying a razor knife. You have the tip to abuse as much as you like and keep most of the blade shaving sharp when you need it.

There is talk about Spyderco releasing a sprint run of the Bob Lum Tanto. Now that would be a terrific tanto to own. Sadly, I've missed out on the original run the times that I've seen them for sale (I was lacking sufficient funding/knife was too expensive).
Your other options are:
ZT 0400 (a favorite of mine, that knife is incredible)
Emerson CQC7
Cold Steel Recon 1

I like tantos for just about anything. I don't see any reason not to EDC a tanto.

My wife got me this in RI, pre-911.

BM Mini Stryker.

Try to keep it new. Would EDC it more often, but I don't want to beat it up, too much.

If it hadn't been a gift, I'd EDC more often. Tanto for everyday-use works fine for me.

Btw, I like to keep a Kiridashi close by, too.

:D

If I had a choice of any tanto it would be Spyderco's Lum folder. The grinds are excellent on that.

I carried a CQC-7b for years and found it to be just fine for EDC. I will say I personally prefer the Bob Lum style tanto (the same style you find on Criss Reeve tanto blades) over the "American tanto" but both are perfectly functional in my experience.

I EDC a benchmade mini-griptilian. I really like the strength of the tanto blade (thick spine), as well as the cutting surfaces being straight, not curved. I like wharncliffe's as well, but they tend to be much less sturdy towards the tip.
