Hello everybody, this is a just finished tanto blade, ready for mounts now. Still deciding on that. It was just for fun. The picture is not great. The digital camera and I do not get along too well. 1095, clay heat treated, hand polished. Let me know what you think????

Thanks for the thumbs up WIll, This one was just for fun. IT should be done in a couple of weeks and the hamon really stands out. Much better than in the picture. I will post a new one when it is done. Oh it is 1060 steel, not 1095. More fat fingers.
Thanks again

oooooo aaaaaaah. :D My kinda knife. What type of refractory did you use and how do you apply it? Curious.

Very nice blade Brion! Can't wait to see it fitted up. If you don't mind me asking where do you get your 1060 steel?

Jeez I am blushing. Thank you for the comments everybody. I still have not decided on the mounts. Maybe a plain shira saya with horn or something a little fancier. Silent as for the steel I get it from admiral steel and have had no problems at all. The refractory is something I picked up on Don Fogg's forum. Go to your local home depot and pick up some DAP fireplace mortar. COmes in a caulking tube and costs $3.00. Good for up to 2000 degrees or so and seems to work great on 10 series steels. Very sticky and no cracks after drying. I just apply it with a spatula about 1/8" thick and then scrape off the hamon design. Again thanks everyone and a picture is coming when it gets done.
