Greeting's to all. This is my first post on the forums, been lurkin for for a few weeks. I recently purchased a tanto blur and a barrage 2445st(14c28n) both have a BOD of Dec08.The clamshell packaging on my blur says it is produced with 14c28n steel. I know that Thomas stated in a earlier post that the steel changeover would take place in March 09. I'm confused, which steel is my blur made of? Is it 13c26 or 14c28n? Any input or clarification will be much appreciated

You will never know. Sorry. :(

Just kidding! Well, Thomas stated that changeover would be *complete* by March. Now whether or not you got one with 14C28N, you would really be able to know without doing some tests with it or something. (which I have no clue how you would/could do)

I *think* it is 13C26, just because the original project date for the changeover was January.

13C26 is not a bad steel at all, in fact it's quite excellent. I think a partial reason for the switch was enhanced corrosion resistance. Your blur is DLC coated, so it won't have a problem at all. Even still, one user (dogofwar) reported 13C26 to hold an edge longer than the mighty VG-10!

Use the heck outta both of them, and welcome to Bladeforums! (And the awesome Kershaw subforum ;) )

13C26 tastes different than 14C28N. Just based on my personal experience.

:D

BTW don't taste your knife steel. Leave that to the professionals.

Knivesandguns u almost had me goin there for a minute. I will be sure to put them to work. Thanks for ur response and ur kind welcome, but hopefully someone can shed a little more light on the subject for me.

Well, I'm pretty certain it is 13C26, but I'd wait until Thomas comes in here to confirm.
