Hey guys I don’t post here often but I just wanted to show one of my latest projects. My friend and roommate approached me about making a tanto with both traditional and modern elements. I could immediately see it in my head, and what I came up with is fairly close. He is a combat veteran and the desert was definitely on my mind for material choices. I’ve never made anything quite this large and involved. Of course I ran into some issues. Of course it’s not perfect and of course I would change a couple things, but that’s how this stuff goes. I am happy with the piece overall and he is beyond stoked to have it.
Honestly I have very little specs for this. I didn’t bother measuring before handing it off. It’s made from 1095 high carbon. I clay coated the spine for a hamon. The handle is a pair of really nice brown canvas micarta scales. I ground the blade with a thin edge geometry, and the final edge was frighteningly sharp. I put some brown kydex pants on it to wrap everything up. This was a really special project for me, and I hope you guys like it!
