I have a tanto seb, large and I can't for the life of me get the leading edge shaving sharp, and the tip is kinda Blah.

I have a sharpmaker with diamond rods, and I've been using the the 30* settings. Main edge gets really sharp with ease but that leading edge is being a pain in my rearend

I believe you're supposed to use the 40 deg. angle. You are re-profiling with 30 deg...ie. taking alot of steel away. This will take quite some time. Perhaps free-hand on a fine stone?

[sigh] i can read directions lol. i wanted a thinner edge and can't afford an edgepro just yet. i'm asking how to get it shaving sharp, not sal's recommended sharpmaker technique ;)

i really like the edge i'm getting on the main edge, the flats. sharpened it a few times now. sharpens up easy and wicked sharp. but on a whim today while testing the edge i noticed that the leading edge of the tanto isn't getting nearly as sharp, won't shave at all. i thought maybe that due to geometry it hadn't reprofiled like the main edge had so i did the sharpie trick along the whole blade. sure enough i'm getting to the edge, its just not producing the same quality edge i'm getting on the main portion of the blade.

i want a strop, but i don't have any spare cash at the moment, and was looking for a pointer to get it sharp, tonight.
