Tanto sharpening?

I usually just strop to keep up the edge. I haven't ever sharpened my tanto in the traditional sense. Anyone else?

If you use the forum search tool you'll find a lot of info on this question. I use a KSF leather strop block loaded with black compound for the front bevel. Sharpmaker for the long edge.

I had a Large 21 Tanto Micarta as a user for several months. I sharpened the main edge as normal with the fine SM rods and stropping, and I maintained the tip by just stropping it.

I use a KME for the straight edge and free hand the tanto portion with a mouse pad and 220 grit sandpaper on the mouse pad. Finish up with a strop.

Thanks for the options. I have a lansky + some dmt stones. If I use the lansky what angle is best for the straight edge?

I don't have a tanto CRK, but other tantos I have sharpened on the Lansky I have done at 20 degrees on both the straight edge and the tanto portion followed by stropping..

Front edge gets repaired with wet-dry sandpaper on a mousepad (edge leading or trailing...no matter if you keep the paper tight and the pressure appropriate). I usually polish it up to about a 600 grit (you can go higher, but it seems to suit my needs best at 600).

The back edge can be repaired using nearly any means you are familiar with. Honestly, I think it looks and works well when finished similar to the front edge.

I do love the CRK tantos, but have anguished over the thought on maintaining the edge(i only use a sharpmaker). Really dont want to "figure out" new sharpening skillz on a new CRK. I do want one tho and am always tempted:)
