tanto trident cleaning failure D:

So the other night i decided it was cleaning night.

I had been reading a lot of threads of the random nature, and saw similar people talking about how they didn't like the locking mechanisms on their spring assisted. I felt the same way, and decided to remedy that irksome feeling. I've never taken a SA knife apart before, but we're all curious.

Removing the lock was simple. Felt good about it. Started putting some of the screws in place, and screwed just one in, but when i had set the knife down to screw the rest in, the blade slightly bumped the carpet, and hidden spring below the knife popped out a little. Meh, not too worry, i'll just unscrew the screw and pop the spring back in. the damn torx stripped. not the screw, but the actual bit...........

so now i have a disassembled trident with the spring out, and one screw in the handle with a smooth torx. i bought a stupid small carry set with different sizes, becuase the trident requires a 5/64 and torx6........i hope home depot will replace the torx or soemthing for me to put my trident tanto back together (T.T)

anyone have any mishaps when taking their sogs apart?

Just curious. Was it the Husky 8-in-1 set? I've had very good luck with that one, it removed some screws that resisted everything else I had.

Wiha seems to make about the bext ones, though they are a tad pricey.

I'd bet HD will replace it for you, their pretty good about that sort of thing, espcially on an inexpensive item.

the brand is called *general* came in a black zipper case

going to home depot now hopefully to get a better brand

edit- anyone with a folding trident tanto, can you tell me if when it is closed, can you still see the spring, if looking at the opposite side of the clip. i can still see a little of the spring when it's closed.

i was able to get a new torx and fix my trident back up, actually feels smoother opening, but i just noticed the slight visibility of the spring when it's closed

Ah ok. Maybe they will just let you swap out for the Husky 8-in-1. As I said I had good luck with it. Costs about $6. Lowes carries the same item, but branded as Kobalt.

so sog dogs with a tanto trident, can you tell me if you see the spring on the left side when yours is closed

not sure if this was cause by me opening up it's innards, or if this is normal

i had a sog trident tanto it was a cool edc/defense blade had to throw it away in the trash cuz i forgot i had it clipped to my pants before entering sixflags theme park. and the walk back to the car is about 45 mins in 90 degree heat. i miss it lol

what the hell!?!?! you should of did the airport trick and hid it in a plant, or propped the trashcan up and slid it under >.< that sucks though, i hope i never have to throw away a knife cause of circumstance and situation :barf:

Maybe not have it clipped to the pants pocket.
Or is SixFlags scanning everyone now?

yeah they got metal detectors right before u enter the park. i was thinking about hiding it but there was no plants just concrete and trash cans so i had no choice plus hundreds of ppl walking near me so i just unclipped it from my pocket and tossed it in the trash. i got it from a sporting goods store for like 80 bucks i think
worst knife i lost to the cops was worse it was 375.00 retail im still sad about it today it was like 7 yrs ago masters of defense mark 1 cqc auto
