Hey Everybody,

Just finished up this Tanto and took some quick pics. It was supposted to be a Bob Lum sort of thing, with nickel silver bolsters and micarta. I have been forging a fair amount of Aluminum lately and thought I would experiment with a forged in pattern on scales. The texturing die I used was simply MIG weld on a plate dressed with scotchbrite. I wanted an organic look like stag or rock erosion. The handle is held on by handmade copper rivets and I left them a bit proud to act as indexing points. The blade is 0-1 with a hollow grind that I left a bit thick at the edge and fethered in with polishing stones. So it goes from hollow to convex 3/16 from the edge. It cuts like crazy.

Thanks for looking.

Cheers,

Nick

very nice.

My only criticism would be to sink in the rivets. the one near the butt in the second picture looks a little raised.

That picture is kind of deceiving. There is a low spot in front of that rivet and the perspective makes it look really tall. The other side facing the butt matches the front rivet height.

Thanks for the comments. I think I might wack them down some more.

love that style of grind, (flat out at the tip and hollow along the rest of the edge) and you did a good job of it. Looks like a nice deep grind.
I think this knife would look better with a semi traditional wrap over top of the aluminum...

I never thought about doing a carved wrap in Aluminum. That would be AWESOME!

I'm gonna do it!

Nice work Nick,a very creative use of aluminum...+1 on the carved wrap:thumbup::thumbup:
