Tantung?

I got one e-mail from a guy with a piece that said it was very brittle. Other than that I havent heard anything either........

I'm one of the lucky ones that got a piece of it that was precision ground. I haven't had the time to grind it yet. Maybe in a few more days. MSC lists it in their catalog in a couple decent thicknesses/widths. Not sure if it is the same type.
I'll post when I grind a blade from it.

Took me a second there patternweld, but when I got it I about fell off my chair!

You guys git a bunch of snow yesterday like we did?

yes, it snowed cats and dogs here yesterday= hey what time are you planning on getting to Eugene on thurs??

I am not sure Tom, but it is about a 1000 mile drive from my place, so it will be dark 30 or so.

I wouldn't know yet Tom as I HAVEN'T GOTTEN ANY OF THE STUFF YET!

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

I haven't even had any e-mail from them, let alone a sample. They must not like people named Tom.

Well i got some last week, but in my opinion.... its way too brittle for a blade, it snaps like a file. at least my piece did, also its tough stuff, it seems like it would be really tough to grind, oh well.

Hi
Rob
It didn't look like we got any snow, but I was in Missoula yesterday. Gerome Weinand had a little one day hammer-in. Learned how to construct and weld some of those square tube mosaics that seem to be hot right now. Gerome built a nice billet that had a donkey head in the pattern. Got to visit with some old friends, also.

Be careful, I believe that if it's snowing cats and dogs in your neighborhood, well, I think it has something to do with the four horsemen of the apocolypse saddling up.

So...what is up with the next miracle steel (is it steel? what's on the ingredient list)? Sure wish somebody would hurry up and make a knife out of some.....

Bob

Well shoot Tom M, you went to the other side of the divide, no wonder you didnt see any snow! Gerome made some mosaic with a donkey in it? Figures!

Lets see, the last miracle steel I have worked with would cut glass in the annealed state, (no $hit) but cant get a decent edge on it. You suippose 69 Rc is a little hard? I tempered it back to 60 Rc, still cuts glass but still cant get it sharp.

You comming to Oregon?

After drilling into it with .093 carbide drills and having it crack out on the backside..... I must agree with AJ1, WAY to brittle. I didn't even try to grind it!!
