Tapatalk issues

I don't know if we have any Android experts on here, but I made the switch from iOS to Android a couple months ago and have found that the Tapatalk app for Android is much worse than its iOS counterpart.

The only major issue I had with the iOS variant was that push notifications were iffy. On the Android version, push notifications just do not come in no matter how many times you switch notifications off and on. The other thing is that it often takes several presses of the refresh button to get things like your subscribed threads to come up. It's an aggravating as hell app to use, but makes BF a lot easier to navigate than using Chrome.

The biggest issue I'm having all of a sudden now is that Tapatalk has become extremely laggy and even using significant battery while in the background and with the phone locked. The Clean Master app is notifying me about this, and the issue just started last week. I've cleared all data and cache and uninstalled and reinstalled about 3 times and still having this issue. I'm at the point now where I've uninstalled Tapatalk for good and just going with Chrome for the time being. Any suggestions? The only other thing I can think to do is a factory reset, but I'm having zero issues with any other apps and great battery life on my LG G3.

If Tapatalk is killing your battery, it should probably be reported to the folks that authored the software.

I agree Tapatalk has been a pain lately on my Samsung Note 3. I haven't noticed any battery drain just a lot of stalling and locking up. I've reinstalled a couple times and still the same. I'll watch the thread and see if anyone comes up with a solution. Good topic.

I've already emailed the dev twice about all of the issues I've described. Hopefully the next update of the app will address some of these issues. This being my first full day without Tapatalk on my phone, one thing I've noticed is that things like switching between tabs in Chrome seems much faster and smoother than when I had Tapatalk installed..and I usually always had Tapatalk running in the background. If anyone cares to update this thread when the next update of Tapatalk is released, that'd be a nice help.

I use Tapatalk with Android 4.4.4. My notifications work ok. I don't notice any extreme battery use either. What I notice is that when I'm getting impossibly slow load times on Tapatalk and advisories telling me it can't connect I'm also getting them on my PC using Chrome.
The BF website has been giving me fits for weeks, extremely slow loading, errors, database errors. Occasionally it'll act normal but that is very fleeting. I'd blame the website before I'd put it all on Tapatalk.

Well yeah the BF forum itself has its fair share of issues which makes using the forum period very frustrating. Regardless of the forum though, the app itself was causing problems. When the issues started, the latest update had been out two weeks and it's possible that a bug may not have reared its head until then. We will see upon the next release. I haven't been able to locate an apk of a previous version. If I do, I may try side loading it to see if it works better.

Also, my issue with Tapatalk becoming a resource hog which in turn becomes a battery hog just started a few days ago. Before that, with using the app all throughout the day and night I was still getting great battery life...sometimes up to 6 hours of screen on time on a phone with resource intensive hardware such as the G3.

I'm running on an HTC M8 and I'm not noticing what you are. I'll keep an eye out for those issues though. Thanks.

Ok well that took all of about 5 minutes. Same problems with extreme lag. It seems that it's OK until I go to a thread that's picture heavy and after I exit the thread, everything becomes extremely stuttery and laggy. I didn't give it time to examine the strain it was putting on the cpu.

I've uninstalled and have side loaded version 4.8.3 which so far, and putting it through the same tests have shown much better performance and no lag. I haven't had to wait 15 seconds for threads to download nor have had to hit the refresh button. 4.8 doesn't have the fancy material design changes, but it seems to function much better. Perhaps the heavy changes should've been saved for 5.0.

Then again I may be back in here in a few hours complaining again, and I'll have to chalk it up to phone issue and not app issue since the app worked fine pre-version 4.9.

Update: been using 4.8.3 since the last post with no problems except of course the push notifications suck and are really late coming in. I have them off now.

I saw there was an update from 4.9.5 to 4.10 the other day so I tried upgrading to see how it would work on my G3. The app pretty much worked flawlessly with no lagging and battery drain like 4.9.5, and of course push notifications still suck, but as much as I tried to make myself like the interface, I've since had to revert back to 4.8.3 for ease of navigation.

No matter which settings I choose in 4.10 I basically have to remember which threads I've already read because there's no way to discern between read and unread threads. No bold text like previous versions to make unread or updated threads stand out, even though the settings say that this is possible. The new version also removed the icon on each thread that shows how many views a thread has. I find that useful in some cases and think it should be brought back. Another thing I noticed with 4.10 was that all the stickies in each thread were gone.

4.8.3 may not be as flashy or pretty as 4.10, but damn is it easier for me to use. Anyone else share the same or differing views on the newest version? Maybe I'm just missing something.

4.9.5 is working on my ZTE Grand X max. I'm not getting push notifications and I have to back out and tap in to work but I've come to grips with this being the new TT. I had a legacy version on my last phone. Didn't have quite as many bells and whistles but was pretty rock steady.

TT sucks but it's better than the alt.

Don't get me started on kitkat though... Kk blows.
