I just bought the two Balisong manuals from a local book store and was very pleased with the imformation in them (The Balisong Manual & Advanced Balisong Manual by Jeff Imada) They where left over on sale because sombody ordered them and never picked them up .These books are a wealth of information for anyone who likes balisongs .In his books he tells people to tape the blades or in some moves he wears a leather glove .I myself never tape blades or wear gloves and I like to use sharp blades for practice .I just dont get the same thrill from a taped blade and I feel Like Im cheating .I was wondering how many people do tape blades during practice ???? These books are also good for collectors because they have many pics of the old valors and taylors .

Hi!

I try to do something in between, if i'm trying to learn something new and wild i tape my blade for the first tries, when (if) i get it ok then i remove the tape and let it go.

I've been flipping bali-songs since i was 11-12 (now 29  ) and only cut myself bad around 3-4 times. (and i'm clumsy...)

So, my advice is to use tape for the first tries on advanced tricks and then go without it.

Good luck :)

Tape is cheaper than BANDAIDS, you decide.

The way I see it if you don't f up than you are not pushing yourself and what fun would that be. I wear a helmet snowboarding and on my GSXR 1100 for the same reason.

Oh and I am clumsy also.

No tape, thanks. Why do you think Benchmades are usually somewhat dull? It's a feature, not a bug :D

Protecting yourself from unnecessary injury isn't "cheating;" it's just sensible.

I used to use tape but that was on my cheapies, I don't notice my cuts (which are rare now but I'll get 'em once in a while since I now have sharp balisongs :D).

No tape for me, I prefer to build up callouses and scar tissue.:D

Same here man. Plus I'm paranoid that I'm going to lose my nerve when it really counts. I shouldn't have second thoughts about "going for it" when it comes down to the last fumbling seconds.
