I was thinking of buying one they are pricey are they worth it #1 ? and #2 do you have to buy collects for the taps size you are using ? or is it like a chuck on drill press? Thanks guys

It depends on how many holes you want to tap.
They are fun and beat the heck outta hand tapping.
Nice and straight, very few broken taps.

The collets are a combo of bonded rubber and steel.
They flex.

Taps have standardized shank sizes, one shank size = many tap sizes.
One collet does many tap sizes, so there maybe only a couple of collets within the size range of the tap head.

New brand names list prices are $700 USD now
Look at the import "Auto-Reversing Tapping Head JSN7" they work and are much cheaper.

Don't get hung up on the mounting arbour.
If you find one cheap, you can replace the arbour with a Morse taper, or straight shank that fits your machine.

Go their website and read the catalogues, they list specs, replacement parts and so on.

thank you, thank you so much really appreciate all the info. I was looking at a used one on ebay dought ill go the import its against my gran

I got mine on ebay for $100 , one of the best hundred bucks I've spent. I tapped more than 150 2-56 holes before I broke my first tap and breaking it was 100% my fault , because I didnt have good support under the piece I was tapping and one end of the piece fell in the slot on the drill press table which broke the tap.
it will tap the threads in less time than it took to drill the hole
