Tapping G-10

I got a Military and the only thing I do not care for is the carry orientation. I've always carried tip up. I have see others photos in passing of moded Milies with a different clip, for tip up carry. I want to use a clip off another Spyderco. Can anyone point me toward info on how G-10 takes to being tapped, what the thread size is for the screws Spyderco uses and so on. Or is there an entirely different option? Thanks.

There's absolutely no reason to tap G10 when you can buy threaded inserts

I know for a fact that STR has done it to a Hinderer scale

I have drilled and tapped Micarta, but not G10. I put a clip on a Micarta handled folder using 1-72 screws. It has held up well, I've bent the clip a couple of times and had no damage to the Micarta.

Could you drill through the G10 on your Military, then tap the liners? That would be my first choice. You could always try tapping a scrap piece of G10 and see how it works before you mod you Military.

Most pocket clip screw threads are #2X56TPI. I wouldn't count on G-10 to hold a machine thread that fine. All of my G-10 knives that have pocket clips utilize a threaded hole in the steel liner for clip retention. If you get a Ti Military, you can drill and tap the Ti. The clips on the Military are curved. If you reverse a right hand clip, it curves the wrong way. Order a left hand clip to carry a right hand Military tip up.
