I've been wanting one of these for quite a while now. The first time I saw some posted here in an older thread, there was something about the design that just clicked with me and it was added to my must have list.

My first attempts to find any were met with frustration at foreign websites that either did not ship outside Europe or had shipping charges that were more than what the knives themselves cost. It gave me a new found respect for the difficulty that our international members must experience at times when trying to locate a specific knife.

I had temporarily put my search on hold until recently, when I decided to look again. I'm guessing you've already figured out the result of that search by the fact I started a new thread, so on to the pics.:)

It arrived nice and fresh all the way from Spain thanks to the vacuum packaging.:D

This is a sticker that was included in the package.

I ordered the 7.5 cm version and it's a bit slimmer than I expected. Here it is next to an Opinel No 8 for comparison.

The handle is listed as Kingwood and it weighs in at a scant .80 ounces. The above pictured Opinel is 1.75 ounces. I'd say that the fit and finish is similar to what you get with an Opinel as well. For the cost and style of knife it's pretty good. There is probably a larger version in my future.

Here are a couple different videos showing the Taramundi knives being made. There are various makers and I think it's interesting to see two different ways of making the same style of knife.

Congrats on scoring your Taramundi! :thumbup: They are such a sweet knife, you'll find yourself checking your pocket wondering if it's still in there :D

Okay. That's it, now you've done it!

I've been meaning to pick up a Terramundi, but now seeing your little beauty, I am going to get serious. Very nice knife, and I'd carry one of those in a heart beat. I've been loving friction folders more and more of late. Have you lubed or treated the pivot area with anything yet?

Beautiful little knife. :thumbup::thumbup:

Very cool knife congrats and I love the video process (thanks for adding the YT and pictures). Add me to the list of people who want this now. Soon we can have a group buy (kidding :o)

Thanks for the kind words, folks. I joked about the vacuum sealed package in the first post, but it's actually a great way to keep any moisture from coming in contact with the knife during shipping.

Not yet. I'm just going to see how it reacts as I go. I haven't done anything to that olivewood Opinel either. It doesn't seem to swell up as bad as the beechwood handles do.

It's funny you mention that, Duane. I found myself doing it a few times today. It's so slim and light compared to the other knives I've been carrying that I couldn't even feel it in my pocket.

I found the videos while searching through Youtube. As much as I enjoy watching how these are made, there is one slight downside. Now I get a bunch of Spanish videos in my Recommended for You section.:D

That's a magnificent Taramundi, Dan! :thumbup::thumbup:
I think you're going to really like it. I picked one up in Spain a couple of months ago, and have been VERY happy with its form and its function. The thin blade slices really well; comparing it to an Opinel is a good "apples to apples" comparison, IMHO. The knife is very attractive, too. I didn't see handles that have the dark, rich, uniform finish that yours have; that looks super. I was attracted to both painted boxwood handles (with designs that looked kind of Navajo to me) and burned boxwood handles. I ended up getting the burned boxwood, and have found the random patterns from knots and charring to be mesmerizing. I really like the way your blade "advertises" the region in Spain that the pattern comes from (Asturias). Enjoy that Spanish friction folder, Dan! :D

Thanks, GT. You started your thread a few days after I ordered this one. Seeing the burned or 'toasted' boxwood handles on yours made me wish I had ordered that as well. In fact, I almost bought both when originally placing the order. The painted handles are interesting, but it's not something I could see myself actually using.

I'd say you've got a much more memorable experience to go along with yours, though.;)

You're absolutely right, Dan! The experience makes the knife for me; even if I liked your version better than mine (and yours is mighty nice), I wouldn't trade with you. Sorry, nothing personal, just a memories thing! :D:D

Great thread :thumbup: Just what a thread about a knife should be in my opinion, informative, well-written, and with great pics :thumbup: A very appealing knife too, I'm glad you managed to track one down :)

Is the thickness of the blade about the same as in Opinel nr 8? I have been tinkering with Opinels and would like to make something resembling the Taramundi. I like the blade shape a lot.

Thank you for the kind words, Jack.:thumbup: I appreciate that coming from someone who has started some highly detailed and very informative threads around here.

In regards to the thickness, they are nearly identical at the spine. The Taramundi is just a hair thinner. The main difference is the width. The Taramundi knife is only about 2/3rds of the width of the No 8.

Thank you. What I had in mind was to get a nr 8, 9 or 10 Opinel for a start. I have the impression that nr 10 has a slightly thicker blade and would make a sturdier user.

Still I made a search of the Taramundi knives and and found that since I live in Europe I could get one fairly easily.

Hi guys,

Nice to see that the taramudies have a place here.
I've discovered these knives even if I'm almost only interested in the traditional knives of Sardinian island and I have to say that it's a fantastic everyday knife.

The guy who helped me in this discovery is Pedro Bermudez. A great and very nice knifemaker from this tradition.
I have two knives from him and I have just ordered two others :rolleyes:

Here are mine :

But you have plenty of variations :
