Target Pellet Rifle for my backyard

I need some recommendations for a pellet rifle that I can shoot in my backyard. I live in the city with close neighbors. I would like something that is not very noisy. I have looked at the high velocity rifles but I think they are too loud and I really don't need the power. I want a rifle for shooting targets around 10 yards away. I plan on making a pellet trap out of duct seal and placing it in the doorway of my shed.

I would prefer a rifle that either comes with or I can purchase diopter sights. I want to keep the cost under $150. I think the Daisy 953 is a good fit but I'd like other options.

Is there another rifle I should be looking at?

I have a Daisy 953. It's quiet, accurate and affordable. The stock is a little short, but a slip-on recoil pad will take care of it. All this said, it's way more accurate than I need. I think I'd have been just as happy with a Crosman 760 or other cheap kid's gun for casual plinking of tin cans in the back yard.

Careful. It's entirely possible that it's illegal to shoot those in your backyard. I know they are here. Otherwise, I had a crossman pump pistol that was pretty darn accurate. I think they have a rifle conversion kit for it. Or at least they did in the 90's.

Scott, thanks for the info on the 953. I wanted something that I can enjoy and later teach my kids target shooting.

Shotgun, I'm sure it's illegal. I have a large window on the back of my house that faces my shed. I could shoot directly out my window into my shed. One of the reasons I wanted something quiet.

If I were doing it over again, I'd seriously consider Daisy's AVANTI Champion Model 499 BB gun (and not pellet rifle.) For me, feeding pellets into the 953 is a bit too fiddly. I assume it may be the same with any pellet rifle. The 499 loads by simply dropping a BB down the barrel where it's grabbed by a magnet until the trigger is pulled. The gun is reported to be very accurate and might be just the thing for backyard target shooting and plinking. Here's a link: http://www.daisy.com/node/106

I have a Beeman Sportsman RS series for that sort of thing on our property. Nice for adults over 6', no trying to hold some short rifle. Reasonably priced for its purpose (though is Made in China...meh), fairly high fps - .22 @ 880fps. Break barrel spring action, if that bugs you then keep looking! Gl in your search!

I thought about the 499 but I wanted something that shot pellets and had a little more FPS. I don't plan on shooting any critters with it but I would like the ability to take out pests if needed. The pests I'm referring to are chipmunks and moles, nothing larger.

The Beeman Sportsman is nice but I'm trying to keep noise to a minimum. I fear that it might be a little too noisy. I'm short, 5'7" so most youth guns don't fit me that bad.
