Tarnished brass on Vanguard?

Ordered a Alaskan Guide Vanguard S30V off eBay recently and the pommel and fingerguard are brass and seem tarnished. Is this common? It has the Idaho symbol next to the "192" so is it a 2006 knife? Does the brass on the fixed blade Bucks need polished periodically?

All brass will tarnish, no big deal, get some metal polish, wont take long.

The polishes listed above will all work to clean brass.

A few months ago I bought something called a "Miracle Cloth" that works a lot better. It cleans the brass up really well and seems to retard the tarnishing process a lot better. I have no idea what is in it - the packaging claims that it isn't toxic. I now use it on all of my bucks. I haven't been able to find it in the shops but found a guy in England who sells it on ebay. Only cost a few dollars to buy it and post to Australia as it weighs very little. I cut off a small piece about 2 inches square and carry it in a ziplock bag in the bush or when travelling and find it a lot more convenient than polish.

Thanks for all the input. I used Brasso and had good results. The Vanguard shines like a new knife! I am so pleased with my new knife. Does the Idaho symbol next to the "BUCK USA" stamp indicate it was made in 06?

The Idaho stamp is the '05 year stamp for Bucks U.S.A. made knives. The T laying to the left is for '05 offshore made knives. The T laying to its right is 2006

The Idaho represents the first year in production for Buck at it's new plant in Idaho.

I have been using brasso since my army days. Use a very soft cloth for the final polishing. I buy the smallest can I can find (8oz) because it goes a long way.
