Goin to be picking up a new tarp (first lightweight tarp) soon. I have done quite a bit of shopping around-I have narrowed it down to 4 choices--I wanna keep the price at 75 or less--going to use it for mostly bushcraft style tasks (shelters and whatnot)
Please list these in the order in which you would purchase them-taking into consideration the available (to me) price and your personal experiences--
1. BCUSA 10x10 tarp--around $70 shipped--
2. Etowah Outfitters 10x12 tarp-around $65 shipped-I know they made the first generation of bcusa tarps)
3. Terra Nova Adventure 2 tarp--can get for $30 shipped-
4. Equinox Egret 10x12--$35
 
I've been using an 8x10 Etowah tarp for a few years now and it's very nice for the price. I don't think you can go too wrong with one honestly. Mine was under 50 bucks shipped at the time, I think. If I did it again I'd go for a 10x10 but other than that it is fine for what it is.

The river store had the equinox at that price, ten minutes later it was 44, ten minutes later it was back to its normal price of 55....weird (thats the 2nd time it has done this in the last few months

I caught the same fluctuation you are talking about. Did not drop the hammer in time. That or the Etowah are my choices, as I am in the same boat you are right now.
 
I have had a 10x10 BCUSA tarp (made by Ewtoah) for 3 years now. It is by far the most versatile and durable piece of gear I own. I have camped in down pours, freezing rain, snow storms, 110 degree days and never a leak, rip or tear. The 10x10 size is very versatile as well. A-frame or flying diamond, many other configurations. Get a square tarp!
 
My thought is that the BCUSA and Etowah seem to be identical---So I could get a bcusa 10x10 or an Etowah 10x12 for $5 less after shipping is factored in. I do like the color of the bcusa (coyote)--how does the forest green etowah look?
