I thought I would try my hand at putting up my pancho as a tarp by the merced river. it was pretty difficult to put up in the sand. the guide lines were tough to get tight. I got it though with some help of some river stones.
first i put up a stick and used it for the high end. I didn't have a trekking pole.

i then tied the other end to a tree that was down

Nice setup! Now that I think of it, it would be pretty tough setting up on sand, but it looks like you did pretty well. I'd sleep under it.

Now lets just hope the river doesn't rise while your sawing logs...

good stuff Boomer... nice job.. i hate setting tents up in the sand...

yeah it was a bit tricky, I ended up digging a hole tying off to a rock, and then burying it. then I put another rock on top of that. it worked out well.

Good stuff. Hard to keep your ground cloth clean in that stuff too!

Not that you want to but you could fill your bag with sand to use as an anchor. Maybe some of those cheap plastic bags as well, they are lightweight. Could break a stick and tie to it and bury it in the sand for an anchor as well. Nice set up. If you had a buddy with a poncho you could snap two together. Nice post. Regards.
