Tarpley Knives-Can anyone help this newbie

Hi everyone.
Long time ago I was given a damascus knife that was made by someone named Tarpley. I was told he was from Montana. It has a 4" drop point blade with a burled wood handle. It is also marked 101. Does anyone know this maker?
