My Tarwar arrived today after a long and tough wait !!

I thought that customs had disallowed the item or that there would be a huge import duty !!

To my surprise there was NO duty, awesome !! I haven't been able to check the sword out much yet as I had to go back to work. The balance is great and is quite easy to control with one hand but it feels much more alive with 2 hands. The size is nice too, short but just long enough. Great fit and finish and my favourite thing is the way the handle curves slightly forward - almost like the chinese broadswords. The scabbard is a bit tight but not too bad !!

All in all I am very happy and it is a real beauty !!

One confusing thing is the frog - if one wanted to put it on a belt the sword would lie parrallel to the ground. Strange !!

Thanks Uncle Bill for a wonderful sword and thanks again to Bura for perfect workmanship !

Brendan

What a halloween present !!

:)

The sarkis make all sword frogs for horizontal carry.

I didn't think you would like the tarwar.

I love this blade - I have 2 pics but I can't post them !!

What size do they have to be !!

B

The scabbord is meant to be VERTICAL to the ground.

You put it on, and then

lie flat on your back.:D

congratulations. Maybe you should call and make sure that Customs didn't make a mistake on the import duty. Just tell them you bought a custom-made weapon from overseas. They'll understand.

I thought about that but decided I woudn't.

My fiance'e is a clever one though cos normally I have to pick them up cos they arrive while I am work. The guy came to the door and Jill said "how much" and he said I don't know - let me phone !!

so she goes well it is a gift so there shouldn't be charge. He said fine and walked away.

I forgot to add she was using my BAS to chop some veggies at the time !!

hehehe

:D

Hi Brendan,
the "sword-frog" was a problem to me too, I could not carry the sword like this as it did not look good and you had to take really care how to walk through doors and when to turn.
I disassembled the frog of my everest-katana and used the leather and a thick leather belt I cut into pieces to make two different new frogs. One is more like a khukuri frog and carries the sword almost vertically - angle 80-85° (made from the original belt-loop - now the part that fits the scabbard and a part of the leather belt that is now the belt loop), the other is a bit more for "good looking" and carries the sword at an angle of about 45-50° (made from the original "sword-part" of the frog and two leather stripes of different lengh sewn on it as belt loops. You can glue an old credit card or so on the inside of the sword-part after the sewing - so the weigh of the sword would not draw the two leather parts apart and show the stitches. I used archery string material (white "fast flight") for the sewing. Looks quite good on the dark leather and is perhaps the strongest thread you can get.
I know my English sounds a bit clumsy as I am not used to describe things like this in English, but unfortunately I cannot post pics because I do not own a digital camera - I would have to take normal photos and scan them but will do this if you like.

Bye,

Andreas

Oh, sorry Brendan
hope I am wrong - but the last time I ordered something from the US I thought there was no duty on it too. I received a letter from the customs one or two months later that said how much I should pay... :(
That was two years ago, I still was a student at that time and had spent the money I had saved for the customs duty when the letter arrived. I was not that amused...

Right now I am waiting to get such a letter again as I received my "first package" (BAS, Chiruwa AK, 18" AK and katana) from Uncle Bill two weegs ago.

Your english is excellent, and you are very articulate in it. Not to worry. A pleasure to have a dialog with you.

Thanks for advice Andreas !!

The frog is already off, I'm gonna make something splendid !!

I'd appreciate the pics - you can e-mail or ask Uncle to post (he's very busy right now so probably not such a good idea )

Thanks again

Brendan

I've paid customs on all my other knives so this one was a bonus, maybe that M43 I won could be described as a Tarwar or gift.

hehehe

Almost as scary as that "Ghost image" thread from Bill Marsh, but thankfully without the piercing scream.

Brendan,

If you hold a pineapple in your hand, that's what I used to do for a summer job almost 30 years ago.

Tarwar looks great (sigh! the world is always split into the haves and the have nots). I'm working on experimental Sisco-Sarge baldric project using the Tarwar (it'll come sometime). Thanks for the heads up about the _|_ frog (that's supposed to be short for perpedicular). It'll change the construction a tad (hopefully make it a bit simpler).

Oops, sorry. Forgot to make one request. Brendan, would you mind posting a pic of the Tarwar frog with a ruler in it so it can be sized? If that's a hassle, would you mind posting the dimensions of the frog's leather loop: how wide is the leather strap making the loop, and how big is the loop (i.e. can it fit on a 1 inch belt, a 2 and 1/2 inch belt, even bigger?)?

Thanks a lot!

BK

Congrats on the new blade. I'm not much on swords but, that is a very nice looking blade. I sure hope you enjoy it. I know you will. :) :)
