I am looking for more information on the history and intended usage of the Tarwar. Is this a traditional blade, or is it an HI creation? Might it appear under other names, or different spellings?

I haven't found much on the background of this blade either here or on the HI website. The fact that T-A-R-W-A-R is the middle six letters of "star wars" is seriously inhibiting my google-fu.

Does anyone here make serious use of their Tarwar, and if so, what have you found it to be handy for? I bought one because the blade type "spoke" to me, and have no regrets. It is a beautiful blade in its own right. It would be even cooler if I could gain some insight into its effective use (especially as a tool rather than a dedicated weapon). I can't really see ever using a big blade as a weapon, though learning a few traditional techniques might be fun. The weight of this thing would make practicing with it good for upper body strength, if nothing else.

I have a Tarwar. I believe other spellings of it are "Talwar" and "Tulwar" but those spellings I think indicate that they are Indian style blades. The typical Talwar/Tulwar has a bit different shape than the HI Tarwar. I don't know the history of the HI Tarwar. I have used mine like an axe to split wood and to chop down trees about 4 inches in diameter. It is heavy as hell and it has held up to these tasks so far. This type of use is considered extreme use or abuse to a sword usually.

Use the forum specific search function in the upper right corner in this forum and in the archives and you should find plenty of tarwar info here.
