Hello all,

I've purchased a Tarwar from Uncle bill maybe a year or two ago. Never had any problems with it. Recentley, I was chopping at some wood and damaged my blade :( About 5 or 6 inches down from the top of the blade, there is a nice big fold/dent in the blade. I would post a picture, but can't find my camera. But I will try to explain the damage as best as I can: the dent is about as wide as a thumb, and if you look at the blade it looks like a 1/2 circle in the edge, maybe 1/2 an inch or so deep. Basically the problem is that the blade is no longer straight, and the steel that used to be at the edge is now folded towards the side of the blade. I'm sure it happened because I didn't hit the wood right, or something like that. Anyway, I was wondering as to the best way to repair such damage. I am not very experienced with repair on such a large scale, and I am worried about causing more damage to the blade. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :-)

What was you chopping wood with a sword for? :grumpy:
Swords can cut fine branches and the like, but should never be used for chopping.
Best thing to do is send it back and trade it for a kukri so you can chop to your heart's content.

You can try to use a hammer to gently and I stress gently tap the bend back into place. Place it on a hard surface and go slow.

Wrap the hammer in some kind of rag to soften the blows, too. That'll mar the blade a bit less.
How far out of kilter is this spot? I'd be careful hammering it. You would not want that large a piece to chip out.
5 inches from the tip is not the sweet spot on the Tarwar. Mine's a 19" blade, and I'd say I strike 8-10" from the tip. You exert a lot of force on the blade when you chop that closely to the tip.
Post a photo if you can.
