This is a Yangdu, HI sale; I'm just the warehouse it's being shipped from, in case a moderator or aparatick thinks I'm pulling a fast one. ( I have no fast ones left to pull)

Yangdu recieved a beautiful Tarwar from Bura. It has a carved horn handle. And it had both ends of the guard above the bolster going the wrong direction.

They were at least a 1/4 inch off. You could look down the line of the blade and feel dizzy; which way should you swing?

A correct fix was possibly, possibly taking apart the entire handle. I see the Kamis used a lot of laha at the blade bolster joint and am not sure this would be advisable; at any rate, Yangdu did not wish to go to that expense, and had she wanted to, I would have refused the assignment. My only job was to re-finish the guard of the bolster back to flush, or close enough, to fool the eye.

The Tarwar is about 29" and weighs 36 ounces. The handle is one of the best I have ever held of any khuk or product from HI. Could be my hand geometry, but Bura has swelled both the portion below his ornamental carving at mid point and the region about this; makes for one hand filling, plow share grip, either hand, or both. The grip is better than my own Tarwar.

I've left the guard, almost, but not quite on point. The owner can decide how much more to remove if any. I've completed my own meager task.

The point was left somewhat rough by the factory- I've not touched the blade in any way.

The blade is sold by Yangdu for 150- a blem but with a beautiful handle.

I hope someone likes it. If you request, I can smear gear oil back on the metal surface..to give it that 'new' cast.

Call or Paypall Yangdu for Tarwar and I'll ship to the buyer.

If I did not already own a fine Tarwar, I'd take this myself, just for the handle and balance alone. It is a little faster than my almost 30" Tarwar.

munk, could you explain what was wrong with the guard again? I'm not quite following. Is the guard an oval shape and rotated wrong? A Tarwar has been on my list for a long time, and this one is a beaut, I just want to be clear on what's wrong before I pull the trigger.

Thanks!

My own Tarwar had the 'grey neem' seen by Norm. I love it. But if I could have held both in my hands, I'm not sure this Tarwar would not have won.

The bolster/guard should be even; look at my photos- they nearly are now. I corrected them.

Maybe Yangdu will post the 'before' pict; but this Tarwar is a winner, and I believe Yangdu insures the blade lifetime. As far as I can tell; Himalayan Imports loss: your gain.

Don't deal with this guy!

He whacked Tigger! :D

Very nice, Munk. Free bump. :D

Email sent, fingers crossed! I've been trying to get a Bolo for the last month, but this is the one right (err... two spots) below that on my list.

List (like anyone cares - just want to put it on paper, so to speak): Kerambit, Bolo, YCS, Tarwar...lots of other stuff.

Good for you tinmadog! Looks like Munk did a great job on that, as I can just barely see the problem now. Also, I have never heard of a carved handle Tarwar before, so you have another first there. Sounds like a very well sculpted handle, which is what you need on this model.

Of course, the bargain price doesn't hurt! Thanks for removing further temptation...

Munk, you fixed it just right. Looks like you got it TDC on the top, which is where everyone will see it, and almost dead center on the bottom.

I have had to do similar guard adjustments on a Crow, that Sher S-1 Karda and another short sword. The oval and square guards are the hardest for the kamis to line up I think. Taking apart the whole handle would take a lot of time and effort. Just regrinding the guard profile is the way to go.

Thank you, Norm. I was a little uncertain if Yangdu shouldn't go the whole route. This particular bolster/guard was already smaller than the one on my own Tarwar, and I did not wish to take too much off.

I believe Yangdu is getting more than a little annoyed by Bura's assistants.

Well, I certainly wouldn't blame her. Whether it's a blem or a perfect HI effort, the shipping is going to be the same for her, and then she can't recoup by selling at the correct price in any case. Good for us, as a bit of work can still save most of them, but not so good for HI.

Time for some kami asst. counseling!

Norm

Since Yangdu was selling this as a blem anyway I thought she might as well just sell it; but she hated the way the guard looked.
The new owner may get a file or sandpaper and gently finish the reallignment if he wishes. It's pretty close and looks OK, Norm is right about the top being square and the bottom being just a wee bit off.

I just examined my own Tarwar and discovered the bottom of the guard was also off. Funny.
