tatami cutter dimensions

I'd like the dimensions of your ideal tatami cutting swords...blade length, balance point, blade thickness, edge thickness 1/32" from edge, edge angle, total mass, anything else relevant.

Is tatami really that hard to cut? I've never cut it so I don't know how to design a tatami cutter.

Thanks

Just make the most functional sword that you know how to do. A tatami is a vegetable simulation of a person. A 4 inch diameter tatami is about the same as a man's upper leg. Two mats = waist cut. 3 mats= shoulder to waist.

Just like any other blade you have to balance various factors. Avoid: too heavy and slow, too light, too flexible, too thick, too hard and brittle, too soft, too large, too small, etc.

Thanks, Daniel, but since I don't have any tatami even the trial and error method might not work. I usually use very thin edges, and tatami seems to have the ability to tweak blades so it seems it would require a rigid blade.

Poor man's tatami:
Use newspapers rolled up to the same dimensions and soaked vertically 36 to 48 hours. Dry for two hours before cutting.

knightsteel........I saw you work at the Ren Fair in waxahachi a few weeks ago. Awesome stuff you are putting out. I handled many pieces and all were top quality and that S7 you are working with is something else. My compliments sir.

The S7 is great stuff, but the secret is in the thermal process. Isn't that what every cook says?

I can't for the life of me remember the name of the guy I was dealing with, but he said the you were getting more and more out of that stuff :D
