I’ve been breathing deeply, convincing myself that I have enough knives to last me a lifetime; having a little peace in disconnecting myself from the “gotta have” mantra and low and behold what comes along…what’s the deal? A Tatanka comes along, that’s the deal. Not particularly good looking; more knife than I would ever be able to use; not in a steel that I was really interested in…but I can’t get it out of my mind. Big honkin monster’s mesmerizing me.
Please convince me not to get it. There must be enough reasons to turn me against this feverish senseless compulsion. Or convince me that I would be doing the right thing in purchasing it based on psychological and/or practical reasons.

You do not want a big blade and overbuilt folder with a good steel. Do not purchase.

I love Spyderco but this knife is a little expensive for the steel used.

It's big and very solid with full liners and easily the sharpest I've ever gotten any VG-10.
Every time I pull it out of my pocket and open it I chuckle a little bit still.
It's a quality of life thing and these days anything that can elicit a grin is worth having.

I've got some custom handle material on the way for mine. I'll post it up when I get it done.
Till then...

Just look at it, either you want it or you don't. It's the first knife from Spyderco to feature the Power Lock, and it comes in a decent steel.

Great photo -I'm sure, that alone, is enough to convince someone to buy it. I'm definitely leaning in that direction. Mike

Very compelling statement in favor. I especially like the "grin" factor.

I've looked hard. Want it and don't both at the same time. How can two opposing thoughts occupy the same space? I'm hoping to be pulled to one side or the other. I know it's just recently hit the shelves, so how are the in-hand first impressions of those that are receiving the monster?

I'd love to collect this knife, but I wouldn't use it for anything, I'd prefer using a fixed blade. I'd wrather have something 4.5" or under as a folder.
As for the other side of the argument I'm a sucker for strong locks, and this power-lock really puts this thing somewhere down the line on my list.

Just remember, Mr. Glesser mentioned a new Chinook with the powerlock, so as long as you're patient...

Between Wharn's praise on the other Tatanka thread and Barman1's comment and awesome photo here, I will buy the monster tomorrow on Veterans Day after a free breakfast at Marie Callendars for active military and veterans. Maybe pop into Starbucks for a free coffee and also a freebie for the spouse. Wow! Don't ya just love it. Hmmm, gotta fit Denny's in there somehow.:)

When the blade on a Tatanka locks does it sound like the slide on a 1911 slamming home? :D
