My partner, the department opns Captain, got the hots for a Taurus 1911 Duotone 45 he saw in a gun shop in Albuquerque. He said it was a 'gorgeous gun,' felt great in his hands, and had a fantastic trigger pull so would I please order one for him? I did and it came in yesterday. He was right, it is 'pretty' with a coal black frame and highly polished stainless slide. Wow!, the trigger! I measured the damned thing at exactly three pounds. I can recall the day when you'd have to pay some heavy bucks for a good smith to give you a three pound, no creep trigger on a 1911. The dealer price? $592.00.

Okay, he was at my place to pick it up 20 minutes after I called him. We did the paperwork, or I did, while he fondled his new pistol. He was one happy camper. Well, hell! He and I have always been 'twinkies' so I picked up the phone this morning and ordered another for me, then I called him and cussed him out for making me spend money for another damned gun. I have guns now I haven't fired and so does he but the Duotone Taurus is definitely one I have to have.

I've recommended Taurus handguns before on this forum as excellent guns and the equal of any of the custom models costing from double to six or more times the Taurus price. I stand by that. I have several Taurus handguns in calibers from 9mm to 45 and have NEVER had a problem with any of them. They just shoot. I feel as comfortable on duty with my older Taurus stainless 1911 as I do with my H & K or custom National Match Colt. Same thing with my small Taurus 45s (1-45 and 7-45) which I carry concealed. Never a problem.

I wish others would get off the notion that you have to pay megabucks to acquire a quality, dependable 45. Ain't so!

I'd be interested in hearing how your new gun performs. Is it reliable? Is it accurate? Does it hold up well? I always hear mixed reviews about Taurus guns, and don't own any personally. I've handled and shot a few that seemed fine, but I've never shot one of their 1911s.

1911s seem to be a crap shoot these days, unless you shell out the megabucks. Sometimes folks get a good one on the (relative) cheap, but I hear a lot of horror stories.

I've been eyeing a Taurus 1911 as well. I currently own a PT101 that has been flawless, and have shot lots of other Taurus pistols that friends own, none have ever had issues.

moonwilson,

Sir, no crap shoot with Taurus 1911s! I've ordered and equipped a lot of LEOs with them and I own, let me see, five Taurus handguns, 9mm, 357, and three 45s. Never a problem with any of mine or the ones I've ordered for others. I've yet to see one back in my shop for repair, adjustment, or anything else. I've put about 4,000 rounds through my Taurus 1911 so far and it has yet to even belch, it just shoots, accurately and smooth as silk.

I assure you, I am one rather hard-assed old timer, ex GI, ex special agent, ex cop, and currently a volunteer special deputy/detective. I would NOT recommend ANY firearm I did not believe was reliable and, equally important, worth the money. I'm not 'married' to any particular brand of firearm but I do look for quality and consistency which is why I'm partial to S&W, Ruger, Winchester, Remington, Taurus, and H&K. There was a time I could say that about Colt but they've been like a yo-yo for the past number of years. I cherish the two Colts I have but they don't make 'em like they used to.
