Taurus Judge opinions?

So I have the opportunity to pick up a Taurus Judge that was purchased new just a few months ago for $350. The guy is going to give me $100 worth of 410 & .45 colt ammo with it as well. It seems like a real steal at that price even though I'm not huge on the gun itself. Thoughts on the gun? Anyone own one and what's your opinion on how it shoots? I have to buy it for that price right? I do like new toys:D

If the condition is good, it's a pretty decent deal since they go for slightly over 400 brand new.

I'd offer him no more than $200.00 on the outside, it is half a pistol and no kind of shotgun, if you want a decient survival gun find an M6. When they came up with this design they were remembering "there is one born every minute". Good luck. M

Probably a fun gun, but I don't see the real need for it unless you do a lot of hiking or working in snake areas. In that case, it might be the absolute best handgun you can get.

Is the gun you are looking at the Ultralight version? I own this model and can say that if you like "toys'' you may like this gun alot - it is fun to shoot. As far as uses the Judge is a great woods bumming sidearm, with the .410 being handy for snakes or other critters you might come across. The accuracy with the .45 cowboy is surprisingly good given the chambering, but can start to keyhole after half a box of ammo. This gun wasn't designed to pump thousands of rounds through but it is pretty well made. For the .410 ammo you may get with the deal, you should check that it will fit as not all .410 shells fit the gun.

I won't go too far into the tactical applications versus other rounds since that's not really what I use this gun for, except to say that I think a big and slow .45 round would be quite lethal if it were pressed into service in that role. Ask ten people and you might get ten different answers on that.

This gun would be purely for fun and pay, it's not going to be a defense/survival gun of any sorts, I have plenty of those already:D I'm going to pick it up, figured I won't get hurt much on trade value or resale if I decide I don't like the gun and it should be fun to shoot. Thanks for the replies. Trevor~

Is it a Judge or Public Defender? Full, bobbed, or spurless hammer? Blued or stainless? Fiber optic sight or post?

Also, how does the cylider lock up when the hammer is cocked? Is it stiff and tight, or is it pretty loose, I've seen both and obviously the loose has to go back to Taurus.

Either way, $350 will all that stuff is a good price, especially if it's unfired, and you could resell it for more if you wanted to.

As for opinions, I'm not a fan of Taurus, or of .410 handguns (doesn't do much for me). But, they're pretty popular right now so it would be an easy resell.

You could always use it as a partial trade on a Smith and Wesson Governor, they're 6 shot instead of 5, and I think they feel A LOT better than the Judge, plus S&W machined the cylider to where it would shoot .45 acp with the use of moon clips.

Or, you could wait until S&W comes out with a revolver that I beleive they will (it seems like I'm the only one who thinks this though); and that would be a revolver (5 shot) that will shoot .460, .454, .45 Colt, and .410

The best application of the judge is a "ranch pistol." .410 for snakes and .45 for hogs.

It is an OK car gun, but I would not buy it just for that purpose.

I take one to the deer pasture always.

I picked the gun up today, it's in excellent shape and the cylinder is lock tight. It is the Public Defender with fiber optic front sight, spurless hammer and in satin finish. Cool little gun but certainly nothing I would ever carry for defense, especially CCW. Looking forward to pumping some rounds through this gun, should be some fun!
