Taurus Tracker as outdoors gun

I am looking at a Tuarus Tracker, stainless, in 357 mag as a backpacking/hunting back-up gun. It has a reputation for being accurate and easy to control (from articles I have read) and should be quite resistant to the elements. This is mainly for defense from critters and bad guys or to finish off a wounded animal.

Does anyone have any experience with this revolver or other suggestions for a kit gun? Also, a method of carry and a source for holster would be appreciated.

I think you made a good choice. .357 will do a number on most critters in the lower 48, including the two legged ones. I make a chest rig that would hold your weapon at the ready while you wear a pack, but otherwise you probably want a good cross draw or shouder rig. It all depends on what you will be wearing along with your gun.

As a quick aside to this thread:

I'll vouch for the comfort and workmanship of Robert Humelbaugh's Survival Sheath Systems rigs. I got a custom double-shoulder setup from him that gets worn 16-20 hrs per day typically and there are some multi-day stints when it never gets taken off at all. It's so comfortable that I usually forget that I'm wearing it. The fit & finish of the components is tops and the retention of the carried items is right on the money. At first I thought it was a bit high-priced, being the cheap bastid I am. ;) Now it's proven itself to be yet another example of how a high quality item costs very little over the long run. Thanks, Robert!!

Stiletto, you can get one of his rigs with the assurance that you're getting a well-made carry system. My impression from working with him on the design of the rig is that, if something doesn't work out for you, he'll do whatever it takes to make it right with the customer. BTW, I like your choice of sidearms for your stated purposes.
