I need to ask a question regarding canadian tax law if someone has been working full time and also collecting welfare what do you do a tax time? What will happen to someone that has been doing this, what are the reprecussions please help me. I know its wrong but i was so far in debt and had been out of work for a long time so was just trying to catch up. I have since quit receiving assistance but am scared to do my taxes.

Turn yourself in, maybe you'll earn yourself some leniency and only have to pay back what you stole from honest taxpayers instead of going to jail.

do your taxes -- skipping on them makes the hole deeper and approached felony territory.
Once you've done your taxes, go talk to the folks at the welfare dept about setting up a repayment plan.

Yep. No way around it. It will be considered fraud to some degree no matter what you do. You will have to repay the money you received, what's fair is fair. Don't stick your head in the sand and add tax evasion to the list.

^^^ This. Especially now that you've admitted it for God, Mother and Country to see.

Are the Cannucks more lenient than Uncle Suger?

Don't even try to hide this from Revenue Canada. Do your taxes and clearly state every cent you earned. Explain to them what you told us here that you are in a deep financial hole. Perhaps by working you can get off welfare, it pays squat when compared to any Mc job anyways. Welfare is nothing to be proud of, and you are riding on the coat tails of the rest of us tax payers. I will tell anyone on welfare that I am paying your free wages out of my miniscule retirement pension on the taxes they levy on heat and light and just about everything else today.

You posted your personal information here on a public internet forum, and investigators surf these sites with regularity, and have the means of digging up your personal information;---- as they say the cat is out of the bag now.

Don't lie, don't hide it from them, explain and you will be fine.
