i bought one of these and it turned out to be a p.o.s so i now just use it as a letter opener. what do you guys think of the new schrade?

I've reviewed several examples of the Taylor Chinese copies of Schrades here. I did not find one that I felt was well made with good fit and finish. The sheaths I examined were reconstituted leather, not top grain cowhide. Now these were "first production run" etched, so it is entirely possible that the quality has improved over what I experienced, but I doubt it has significantly. And these knives are definately not Schrades. They are Chinese knives that the new owner of the name (who is not a manufacturer) orders from Chinese owned factories. Schrade knives were products made (and sometimes imported) by Imperial Schrade from 1946-2004, and by association, Ulster brand, Imperial brand, Schrade Cut Co., George Schrade, or one of the factories in Europe. These knives Mr. Taylor is selling are foriegn copies using the Schrade names and trademarks as sales gimmicks, not Schrades.

i didnt know that until after i purchaed the knife . it also says first production run . i saw a write up in tactical knives and it reckons the new ones are better quality , but now i realise thats b.s . suffice to say i won`t be buying another one.

One thing you have to know with TK or the other rags is that companies pay money for ad space. A negative review costs them money, which is why TK and Blade both have reviewers who say 420 "cuts great!" and "really holds an edge!"

I got a XT1B by mistake a few months ago. Now, I will always recheck the description or ask seller. I am going to put it and a couple other ChiCom knives back on ebay.
