Barlows are my favorite pattern of traditional knife and I've been wanting to put the newest Sawyer Tidioute Cutlery barlows next to my favorite barlows, Cripple Creek from the mid 90's, and see how they stack up to one another. Normally I'd post pics and write about all the great details I think each company has presented in their production of the pattern but this time I think I'll let the pics speak for themselves and leave it up to you guys, the viewers. Check out the pics and let me know what you think. Personally, I really like em' both.

Interesting comparison, Nick!
I agree they are both nice. The CC was made by Queen as you probably know. They were also made by the same person!! Along with the other cutlers in both companies, the design and supervision were both done by the current owner of GEC! Somewhat different knives though.
The CC was done while the name "Cripple Creek" was owned by Blackjack I believe. Then Bob Cargill got the CC name back some time after that.
It appears the CC is about the same thickness, but presents a broader "face", and consequently the blade is wider. I Like both spear blades, but lean toward the TC (now don't go calling me prejudiced!). In fact I like the overall slimness a touch more. I've always liked the unusual shape of the Queen spear, with its more "faceted" point, but generally prefer the smoother curve of the TC.
One more notable thing is the way the head of the spring fills the end of the knife a little more on the TC.
The bolster stamps are great in both cases, nice and bold.
Nice knives, both of 'em!

Interesting. Having never seen one of those CC's before, I was thinking that the spear-point blade's shape looks very similar to the one on a Schatt Barlow I gave to my dad a few years back, also Queen made.
Great photos, and comparison. Thanks for posting.

Yup!... both of them are great looking knives! I too like the more tapered, smoother curve of the spear on the TC, but as everyone has said....very nice, Im glad you have those two if Barlows are your favourite!...you must be a happy guy.

Hey Charlie, thanks for all the info regarding the CC barlows, very interesting and coincidental at the same time! I completely agree with you and most others that have posted, the TC blade profile is definitely more pleasing to the eye than the CC. I do like the fact that the CC has a wider blade than the TC but most other design aspects of the TC's seem to trump the CC's. Great design and thanks again my friend!

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments and opinions, keep em' coming!!!
