I want to carry my tdi knife on a vacation in Mexico to keep my girlfriend and I protected. Any word on the legal knife carry in Mexico?

I was under the impression that it doesn't matter due to Mexico's current state of near-anarchic lawlessness. I've never been to Mexico, on the other hand, so perhaps someone who has will be able to provide some more substantial knowledge.

Hi. From my very limited experience, dating back several years ago, in a resort in Cancun, I carried both a diving knife (nothing fancy, a 20 EUR Cressi ) and a SAK. Both of them in checked-in luggage (no cabin!), flying Lufthansa. No particular problems or restrictions, that I can remember, at final destination/customs.

For what is worth :), I don’t recommend to run around, as a tourist, thinking about “defending” yourself with a knife (!) in any foreign country (not that is wise in our own too, but at least we know the written and “unwritten" rules and language better). In Mexico, try to stay very safe, chose leisure places carefully, keep a low profile, an hyper-vigilant eye, avoid aggressive or confronting behaviors and avoid getting obviously drunk, especially if you are with your wife/girlfriend, at least outside a resort. Don't count too much on Authorities/Police if you get into troubles. Hoping it can help and have great holidays!

With how everything is in Mexico right now, a TDI won't help you much.

My friend was harassed by the police for his 6in camping folder but ultimately they let him on his way. like most things if you're a foreigner the laws don't really apply. The worst that will happen is a bribe.

Prepare to lose it and a pocket full of money if you get caught with it and any sense of security you get from it would be false. I used to travel a lot in Mexico but considering the current political/law enforcement situation, I wouldnt venture to far off the "tourist path".--KV

Fixin' to take on the entirety of the Los Zetas with a Kabar TDI? I think the better option is to just stay at the resort, assuming you will be at a resort. If you're going to Juarez, you may as well just draw a dotted line around your neck.

Been there many times,,, the way things are now there's not enough money in China to get me there now!!!!! Costa Rica is much better IMO !!!! ????

Why? I haven't been there for 10 years but I thought that if you're not looking for trouble you're pretty okay still in Mexico?

Are you kidding? Mexico is like the U.S. in the 1970's. Obviously border towns and some narco areas are different but most of the country hasn't seen a murder in years.
