So today, just for kicks, my daughter was in the shop while I was sharpening a knife that's been giving me trouble. So, while I'm grinding away, I figure I'll give her something to do that will keep her from getting hurt or loosing something.

With about 10 minutes instruction, a spare knife, a very coarse stone, and an extra Sharpmaker triangle, she was able to get an edge that would just shave hair off my arm, and it took her about 20 minutes total, including instruction. Whatever happens to that PITA knife I was working on, shop time today goes in the success column.

WTG!! Passing on knife skills to your offspring is never a bad idea!! It will come in handy when they need to do maintainence on them when you may not be available.

Yep. My son can already throw rocks with his sling, though not always the direction he wants. She had a burr raised, flipped and raised again in about 5 minutes. I had her do it again, then moved to the medium Sharpmaker rod. It was switching hands that took her so long. Very dominant right hander.

She just turned 9. I told her later in life she should tell the boys what she can do. It will keep the undesirables away.
