Hey Folks,
While cleaning up my shop today, I found a box of wood pieces that I got from a friend that works in the boat industries. There are a bunch of teak pieces that are probably perfect handle sizes. Does teak make a decent handle?
Thanks

it should.
pretty stable
relatively durable
requires minimum maintenance.
go for it.
worst that happens is you hate the look and have to remove the scales and replace them with something else.

Jerry Larsson uses it a lot. Not the prettiest wood out there, but a very durable and especially grippy handle material.

and not bothered by moisture even without much of a finish.

They used to build ships out of the stuff, what does that tell you :)

Still used for decks and covering boards on a lot of high end boats. From personal experience, IMO they have yet to invent a "non-skid" textured deck finish for fiberglass that is as good as raw or "pickled" teak when wet.

It is lovely stuff - and has a kind of retro feel to it too - thinking of all that Danish furniture
