Folks,

What years were the Team Leaders made in 440C ?

Was this the last model to be made in the US ?

If I took a guess I'd say 2007-2008. Alongside the Dura Tech 20CV ones.
In 2009 there were Aus8 ones.

Tried to PM Chris the moderator, but looks like the last activity for him was 2013.

Perhaps SOG has abandoned this forum.

Went to SOG for a tour in 2011 and actually met Chris - gave me the royal treatment. Sad.

Thanks. I have a plain edge in the white box that says USA on the blade stamp. No tang stamp.

Previous owner says it was part of the original run in 440C, and I was trying to figure out how to verify that.

Hello,

The Team Leader was released in 2007 in two steel types: AUS-8 or Duratech 20CV. Later years it has been all AUS-8 steel.

If "Duratech 20CV" is not printed on the blade then it is made of AUS-8 steel.

Regards,

According to a SOG BLOG from January 22, 2007:

"This is one of the first production knives to be manufactured from Duratech 20CV, a powder metallurgy stainless tool steel. It contains a large volume of extremely hard vanadium carbides, which increase wear-resistance. How tough? Try 35% greater than S30V, a super steel in its own right (e-mail us for a complete test report).
SOG Team Leader
Also available in 440 C stainless for a great combination of performance and price."

So either SOG was calling their Aus8 "440c" in 2007 or they were using 440c and changed to Aus8 later.
All references to the Team Leader from 2009 appear to state "Aus8".

That's one of the main problems with SOG Knives: reliable information.

I got my information from a copy of the 2007 SOG Knives catalog which specifies that the "New for 2007" Team Leader is available in Duratech 20CV or AUS-8.

You really don't know what to believe these days...I am going with the catalog.

My personal Team Leader has Duratech 20CV printed on it.
