Here is a nice looking S&M on A.G.'s site

I've just started taking some interest in the jack knife pattern. Some old timers have told that it was such a common utility pattern way back when, and so many were made, that there isn't much interest in the pattern now. It doesn't seem like too many custom makers have produced the pattern. Wish they would.

I only have one right now, but I really like it. 3.25 closed. Good size. Comfortable to grip. The simplicity of the design really lets the materials and craftsmanship shine through. Hope you like it.

I'm guessing this one to be a Serpentine Equal End Wharncliffe Jack. Now that I've stopped to think about it, I don't own a Teardrop Jack. Hmmmmmm

The best source of information is, of course, Mr. Levine's book, 4th edition, if you can get it.

I agree with "fasteddie's" assessment of how comfortable teardrop jacks and "regular jacks" are to use, though I prefer my examples to be just a touch bigger, about 3 3/4" to 4", closed, with 3 7/8" being a nice compromise. The old-timers were not stupid. They knew what they wanted and needed in a knife and that seems to be why these knives were so common for so long. It may be that, now that these knives are not so "common", that knife users and collectors may want to "get reaquainted".

Here is an example of a Congress Jack

Never quite understood that pattern, but that has to be the nicest I've seen. Here is another by Ryuichi Kawamura. Not my knife. Much as I love the 4 blade and half congress, I just can't seem to get into the congress jack.

A Coffin Jack, Dogleg Jack (sometimes called a Fiddleback Jack) and a Reverse Dogleg Jack. I believe that's correct. That's a nice Congress Jack FE.
