After learning so much about smokesticks and herbs, I figured I might as well get some new ideas about tea. What kind of tea do you guys drink ? In eastfrisia, we drink tea at least 3 times a day, it's kind of ceremony. we drink some special kind of mix of different kinds of black tea, I doubt you can get it anywhere but here. Occasionally we mix the black tea with some fresh mint that we've been growing. Else than that, I really like maté, either green or roasted. Lately I have been enjoying a chinese tea, called Lapsang Souchong. Interesting stuff, it's got a very smokey flavor to it.

What are your favorites ?

regards, Keno

I like Twinnings (sp?) loose leaf irish breakfast and Gavelia (sp?) english breakfast (both black teas, and I let them sit for a good 5 min (or until the next comercials)). I usually only put sugar in mine but I do put milk in when I'm in the mood.

There isn't much local selection around here so for really good stuff I will likely need to order it online. For us it isn't a ceremony of any kind its just "I'm thirsty, I'll make some tea."

Anything caffeinated from Stash in the morning, anything green throughout the day, ginger at night or after big meals. The ginger takes a bit of getting used to but I'm hooked now. The Stash, in particular, smells and tastes amazing and always generates comments at work when I've got some brewing.

I was raised drinking tea with milk and sugar but lost the taste for it and normally take it black. I'll throw in a bit of honey (real honey, from the local apiary) occasionally; it's a nice change of pace and part of a folk remedy I'm trying out to combat allergies. (It can't work any worse than the various medications I've tried.) I'll let you know next fall whether it worked or not.

Really, though, I don't think I've tried any tea from a reputable maker that I didn't enjoy but I'm not all that picky.

I just learned that the eastfrisian mix is made out of 29 different kinds of assam tea

I still have to try some good green tea, and jasmine sounds good as well.

as for me, there's a different procedure for each kind. eastfrisian is consumed together with some kind of rock sugar, in chinese tea pots, maté comes in a dried pumpkin w/ straw, and so on. It's a bit like meditating for me.

Green tea, but not any green tea, Dragonwell tea from China. Otherwise called lungching.

I buy it loose and use a "tea basket" that fits in my mug. I have a filtered water dispensor that puts out hot water at the right temperature when I add a little cold water -- around 160 F. or so...you don't want the water too hot or it scalds the tea and ruins the flavor.

I buy it on the web. This is a great place to buy tea -- over the last few years I've ordered and always gotten my order shipped almost instantly, properly packaged, at reasonable prices. You can't buy good tea retail at supermarkets or even specialty markets, IMHO.

I drink coffee in the morning, followed by:

Yunnan Chinese green tea at home - it is in leaves and I brew it.
At work, I may use Stash green tea bags - just because it is convenient. Next time I visit the grocery store - if the snow stops - I'll try some Japanese green tea.

My wife is an Earl Grey fanatic. She likes Twinings.

Earl Grey is a tea I don't much like. It has some herb added to it...what's it called? Bergamot (thanks Google). I prefer any other tea really.

One tea that is interesting is lapsong souchong, which smells like burnt tires but is a great taste experience. It is smoked over a pine needle fire.

I like a variety of black teas...all brewed in my "Mrs. Tea". Mrs. Tea used to be made by the company Mr. Coffee...now out of production, it's a nice drip brewer that came with a ceramic teapot. I have one in daily use and a brand new unit still in the box stashed away in case this one ever goes belly up.

Often found on ePrey...used around $50, NIB maybe $75 to $100

I actually got one of those "coffee pod" coffee makers for christmas. You know hte ones where you put a mug under the spout and put a coffee or tea bag in the tray. I've really been wanting to try it with loose leaf tea with a paper filter cut out to keep the leafs from choking the system up.

Its tea "pods" are not as good as normal steeped tea.

We're not really big tea drinkers and take spurts at it...
We drink a little green tea. I like Earl Grey as well as Darjeeling. I lean more towards the Celestial Seasoning teas made with most everything but tea in it.
Ginger tea is a favorite and one I should drink more often instead of taking pills to settle my stomach.
Straight Bergamot tea is an experience everyone should partake of at least once.:p
Tea made from White Sage is also an experience not soon forgotten. Don't make it too strong or it's bitter, but then that's true of a lot of teas ainnit? :D ;)
Then there's the tea made from the smooth round blue/purple berries found on Juniper/Cedar trees. These are the same berries used to flavor gin. Don't use the Cedar berries with the little horn shapes on them as they are poisonous. A tea made from certain evergreen in the north, forgot which one, is good for preventing scurvy. Our local Cedar/Juniper is good for the same as well as for other things and besides it just tastes good, to me anyway.
The taste of some teas is an aquired taste, much like the taste for whisky so don't go saying "Yuck!:barf: " until you've tried them a few times to see whether or not you really do or don't like them. :p

I like the Green tea mentioned, especially with puffed rice. I also drink Twinnings Earl Grey- it has a touch of lemon. I figure when I pay the higher price for Twinnings I'm supporting socialism in Britain. I get a strange kick out of that. Somewhere, somehow, someone gets some Government cheese from munk.
