Tec-Lock Question

I have just one Carothers knife, a DEC1 in Abec steel, which I want to be my carry knife, especially when doing outdoor activities, like camping and fishing. It might have other purposes, I really like the knife and find it useful to me in this way. I'm not into full on bush craft, just need a good knife. I would like to get an EDC next, the 3 and 4 inch knives are very practical for me.

I'm not a tactical guy, I have never used a Tec-Lock before. When I wore it on my belt, it came lose. What is the best way to tighten up a Tec-Lock? Are they supposed to be screwed down tight, should one use threadlocker? Sorry, this is probably a pretty basic question, I've just never used one of these things before.

LOL.. I had a nice long reply typed and when I tried to post it the first thread was deleted, so here's the abbreviated one:

Make sure the rubber bushing is between the TL and the sheath body and tighten it down until the bushing bulges. It provides a load on the Chicago Screws and will assist in keeping them from coming loose. That said, check your screws with a wiggle of the TL each day before you wear it. My guess is they were not sufficiently tight the first time.

I would not use a thread locker. If you ever need to move the clip or replace it you could have challenges. The female post side of the assembly is free spinning and you may need heat to break it free, which doesn't go well with FRN and Kydex.

Good luck!

I'm not sure what happened with the post. I saw it for a moment, refreshed the page, and then saw a "your post is pending approval" message.

Thank you very much for your reply and advice.

There's a hinged tab at the bottom of a Tek-lok that "locks" the device in place.

No reason to use thread lock on the screws. It'll just make it all that more difficult to remove when needed. Also no need to drill extra holes in a sheath to attach it. Never did than on any of the gun holsters or knife sheaths that I've attached a Tek-lok to; of which there are around 10.
