Tech Bowie and AUS8 Questions.

I'm in the market for a larger fixed fighter and was looking at the Tech Bowie in satin finish. I was all for it except for two things. Firstly, I've never owned a knife with AUS8 blade steel, and second, my understanding is that this particular knife is of Taiwanese origin. I have all kinds of Chinese products in my household but when it comes to knives I always buy U.S. or Japanese. Its almost a matter of principle, but I am willing to be swayed because I love this design. Can any owners tell me how the AUS8 satin finish holds up against those super tight S.O.G. kydex sheaths? My buddy has a Pentagon and the finish was destroyed aesthetically weeks after he bought it, just from taking it out and replacing it daily.. Should I stick with this decision or look elsewhere guys, what do you think? Thanks in advance for any input.

Is this something you plan to use? I think there are more utilitarian designs out there. As far as the build quality it should be pretty good. I had a Taiwan-made Trident and it was nice. You'll find knives made in Taiwan nowadays are often good quality. You could call Taiwan the new Japan. Any steel can be marred by kydex so if that's a critical factor I'd recommend a leather sheath. AUS-8 is a decent steel as far as edge holding.

I've had mine since Labor Day week end and I've cut meat, veggies, shaved wood, cut paper, cardboard boxes and stripped wire. So far I love it! I am getting a leather sheath for it. I just like leather.

I have the Ti coated blade and it hasn't been affected by the kydex sheath at all. I'm still waiting to take it out on a camping trip so I haven't put it through any heavy use yet but for light household use its holding up great.

I have ti coated one it's just a beautiful blade, and bought the leather sheath cuz I have a satin seal pup elite with keydex and it's all scrached up from it witch is fine. I also have a gov-tac ti finsh with keydex the thing won't scratch. the tech bowie tip is just
to thin it's a flesh eater. look at seal team elite or tiger shark much tougher tips.
if you want more bang for your buck look at becker BK7 and it's hard core!

I got a satin one that goes with me almost everywhere. The AUS8 is extremely stain resistant and little scratches are not so noticeable on the hollow grind. The sheath is not the best of the best but the belt rig is very convenient. This knife is seriously one though dude and edge retention on the AUS 8 is good. I have never thought twice about this blade being made in Taiwan.

Aesthetically drawing any knife from any sheath daily for weeks and weeks will give some wear, not to mention when you use it that leaves marks as well. If you want it to stay collectors condition, don't carry it or use it. That is why collectors put blades behind glass.
