IMG_20170923_094342.jpg I looked and didn't see where anyone had posted these mods already.. I sincerely apologize if they have. After being a long-time owner of an Edgepro Apex sharpener (and Lansky and Spyderco sharpmaker...etc) I bought a TSPROF K-02 sharpener thru George at S.T.A.T.E.S (great guy, great transaction)... and while I think it's a big improvement over the Apex system, I think there are still improvements that can be made. I've made a couple mods that I believe anyone can do and find valuable. First, the knob on the Stone holder arm is awfully small for my big hands. I had an old phenolic handle laying around with a brass 1/4-20 insert... I drilled it out and tapped it with the TSPROF M8 threads and voila, big handle. There are LOTS of 1/4-20 handles to be found online (M8 is rare). A bigger knob might be a better way to go... easy change.
Next, I found that when changing stones the sliding mechanism was gritty and had a lot of resistance (even without the spring). I tried simply lubing it.. no change. So, I took it apart, deburred all the edges (slightly- this needs to still be a tight fit) and polished the moving areas on my buffing wheel (circled in photo), then lubed it (white lithium) again... voila, smooth as butter. I may take it apart and polish the whole handle just for S&G now that it's working well. I hope this helps.. let me know if you have other mods.

that looks sweet. I just got the k02, though i got mine straight from Paul because I hadn't heard about states. I wondered about putting a bigger handle on, or even a t handle

I just sharpened several knives with the longer handle.. I like it better than the little ball knob, but I think I'm gonna try to find a bigger knob and try that. How are you liking the K02?

Every knife in my house can shave and my left arm has an interesting bald spot. I'm starting a sharpening business using the k02, we'll see whay kind of volume i can put out with it, but dio far I'm pleased as punch.

on a side note, what kind of motion do you use when sharpening, I've been using a circular motion when removing stock, into the edge when I have the burr, and away from the edge on my fine stone with almost no pressure to finish. wondering if there were different methods out there.

I just do a saw tooth motion with coarse, towards the edge for all of the finer stones and away when stropping

Do you use a strop pin the machine or free hand?

If you want some cheap and effective strops you can usually find boxes of assorted balsa wood cuts at stores like hobby lobby. Look for some with a similar thickness to your stones. They work great with diamond paste.
