Happy New Year everybody!!!

I made a new model I’d like to hear your thoughts about..
The idea was to make a sheath that is completely modular and can be set-up differently each time for any specific task. The sheath had to be strong, safe, reliable, weather-resistant and easy to use and maintain in the field. It should fit all kinds accessories and attachements one could need or want for a variety of uses.

After some try-outs and prototypes I believe this one is good enough to show here.
I only have some crappy pics cause the lighting is dim and it’s freezing cold, but I will add more to my blog later on. It’ll give you the idea for now.

This is the basic sheath:

It has a halftanned leather pouch and a removable kydex liner. There’s a drainage hole in the bottom of the sheath. In the bottom sits a Chicago screw that secure’s the kydex inside the pouch. On the side there’s a row of eyelets that will fit all kinds of accessories. The kydex is light coloured to make visual inspection easier, and to have a clear aimingpoint when resheathing the knife. The kydex is cut under an angle to have a larger opening for resheating, and to have something to pull on when removing the liner.

Features in a row:
It can be set-up with a teklok in horizontal, vertical and canted positions.
It can be setup with a beltloop for high, med or low carry.

It will fit all pouches in the Maxpedition style ‘Single Pouch’ or custom made pouches.

It will attach to molle gear and it can be carried upside down on a chestrig.

It’s easy to attach a length of cord. There’s always a free hole.
It has a very slim profile

Firesteelloop can be mounted inside or outside the sheath profile.

It can be carried horizontal on the belt using the loops

One pouch could fit many liners for different knives.
As an example. One pouch could fit liners for the F-1, RC-4, Bravo-1, and all other knives that, a bit more or less, have the same profile and length.

I hope you like it.
Comments are very welcome..

Happy New Year !!

Martin, your ingenuity with leather and kydex is nothing short of amazing. Very cool rig. I don't have any of those Maxpedition pouches, are they attached to the sheath or just slide on with some elastic?

Martin,

This is the sheath I've been waiting for.

Offers the look & feel of traditional leather sheaths, performance & mounting options of specops type sheath, as well as user customizations in a smaller size they don't offer.
Very versatile!

I think you have created something special here...

What's the rough ballpark figure for one of these?

You can wrap the velcro's for horizontal carry around the sheath and add a loop to secure it to the pouch.
You can also cut off the velcro's to reduce bulk and use the loop only.
a lot is possible with this set-up, and it's easy to design your own specific add-ons..

Check PM

Thanks guys...

Nice, compact and versatile setup. What is halftanned exactly?
My preference would be for black screws and leather to the top of the kydex.

Halftanned has a core of rawhide making it stronger, stiffer, harder to cut, and makes it keeps it's shape much better..

The screws are black infact, but still reflecting light a great deal. I guess shiny nickel screws would have shown as complete whiteouts in the pics..

Great pics!

And even better sheath!

I too would like to see one in "all black".

Martin, looks this looks like a a sheath I'd be interested in for a couple of my knives that came in dressed in leather, beautiful workmanship, however, I wouldn't want to scuff them up or get them muddy, wet &/or dirty. This seems like a better work alternative

Fabulous sheath! I like the kydex liner, the leather outside, the versatility, the carry options. What would it take for you to make me one with all the options? That is truly an epic sheath for a great knife!

I'll be making a handfull of these for sure, so if you're interested in having one, please shoot me an e-mail or PM.

Thanks guys.

I'm in the process of saving for one of these right now. Martin does beautiful work and has a bunch of different options.

Martin, you never cease to amaze me... incredible!

Now... could you be so kind as to send me the sheath, along with all the patterns and molds so I can "study" them.... oh ya.... the rivets too... don't forget the rivets!
